Saddam's capture will move the market, but I'm shorting

Quote from DK_:

It's about the psychology of killing the devil - what's good for good is good for the economy.:)

Not really meaningful, though, and it won't take too long for people to figure that out.

It's a silly rally, but it may carry a bit. I think the big shorting opportunity will be right after New Years.

His very existance is reason enough for many to continue their fight. Market reaction aside, I am very surprised to hear from people around here that this capture "doesn't mean much".

No. The fight will continue because of Islamic extremists who relish the opportunity that Iraq furnishes: to kill Americans.

This event will be spun for all its worth by the administration, but in a few weeks it will be seen for what it is...no big deal.

BTW, Saddam is saying no WMD and evidence (or lack thereof) would suggest he may be telling the truth.

No big deal? What if they got Bin Laden, al-Zawahri and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed too?

That would be HUGE, we got 1/4 of something HUGE, a big deal in my books.

According to my bible, the national enquirer, they got khalid mohammed. Remember? he looked eerily like mr. market upon capture.

I think you mean mullah omar. But thats according to my bible, the enquirer.

These can easily make tomorrow a down day. It's nice to see the market open up 100+ just to watch it slowly sell off all day.

Seems like I was right on the money.

And so was newestmember who shorted.

True bulls should be happy for another chance to add at lower prices (as true bears were Sunday night). If you are a bull, yet feel less bullish now compared with yesterday evening, it might be time to rethink your position.

Like I said, no big deal. It has significance for many Iraqis, but for the fight on terrorism, nah.

However, it gives the administration a chance to spin.
