Great journal and good posts although I have only read bits here and there. Keep it up.

My only wish.
Why oh why can't this journal be about stocks. Hey! if anyone wants to do something similar for stocks, you have 1 attentive audience here
:D

Bill,
Romik has a journal here at ET on stocks. They are geared for more long term divergence trades but you can check it out. It is the Divergences journal. Hope it will help. Also the S/R and chartpatterns I duscuss here show up the same way in stocks but since I never have daytraded stocks I am not one to listen to about where to exit or anything like that.

no problem, many stocks move in sync with the futures, all you need to do is trade 'em just like you trade the futures.

I guess I should have read your post before writing mine, huh? Also I have watched IBM for years and have seen it actually lead the Dow emini so it is worth watching IMO for YM traders.

Thanks for the responses, nkhoi and 4re.

I've studied TA for a long time. However, the 1 area that I had basically avoided was guess what--divergences! :D

Hmmm, maybe I should take a closer look at that journal. Have to admit, I do like some of the questions that Romik has posed here and there.

Hi all,
I'm also a newbie to Futures (haven't even started trading them yet), and really appreciate the education I am getting from all of you in this thread. I've been a part time trader of equities, and had limited success. I've been using a Futures demo charting tool from E-Trade (my brokerage account is there) , but I realize I will need something better than what E-Trade offers.

I have seen the charts all of you have posted, some using E-Signal, some using Trade Station, IB, etc. Do you all feel that there is one platform which is "best" for futures? Or, do most of these services offer the same basic information? Also, when using these charting services, do you actually trade through them, or is there a seperate service for trading?

Gary, great thread here, and you really have some super contributors! Thanks

Rick

Tradestation is good for charting. I use transact futures for trading, great/reliable price feed and cheap commissions.

Rick,
Thank you I hope you like it here. I know Alaron has everything in one package deal that is a whole lot cheaper than what I pay every month. Worth checking out anyway.

You have to be VERY careful, do not go for 1 package deals. You need a separate feed for your charting and another one from your trading platform. If one "locks" - you will see it, otherwise you could be open to really bad fills. I was using TT's X_Trader (flagship platform in futures trading soft/feed) and that has been one bad experience, I now use PATS and have not yet had a problem, apart from the times like FOMC, when most platfoms's feeds might lag/lock/scramble. So my advice is NOT to go for 1 package or if you do to still have a separate feed for verification purposes. I use Ninja through PATS and Quotetracker with IQ feed/E-signal back-up feed and backfill data and Tradestation for positional trades.

Hell no YM is not for practice. YM is a great future to trade. I actually like the movement of the YM better than ES.
