I got nothing exciting to tell, apart from losing ~15k when trading small account, usual mistake would be small gains that would end with a large loss (total loss actually :D ), basically i had no edge. Also fell asleep at the desk once while in a trade and big shit with X_Trader earlier this year resulting in an almost uncontrollable psychological spiral that almost let my subconsciousness take over and start revenge trading, had to make myself stop by walking away, having a cigarette on the balcony has helped clear the mind. Otherwise, nothing too exciting. I was lucky to learn how to manage money and go out and find an edge. That's about it, I hope LOL

edit: also running a regular business for quite a few years has helped me understand that SUPPLY & DEMAND are 2 most important factors that drive any market, if there is a balance between the two - I do not trade (intraday).

I have to say I have never fallen asleep while in a trade...LOL

I have a couple of questions for ya.
1. are you an emotional type trader like I am?
2. What kind of business were you in?

I am an emotional person, so no point trying to control it.

Wow. I had boro at 55. :D

I'm a 40 y/o east-coaster, specifically the Keystone State. I've worked 21 years for a commercial printing company...digital prepress, photoshop, quark, etc...

I'm a product of the "bubble". 1999 was my first exposure to the markets. Bought Cisco, Nokia and AOL and poured every extra nickel into my account for about a year. I actually sold everything on March 9th 2000. Don't believe it? It's true.

Problem was I put it all in AMD @ around $43.00. Then I spent the rest of the year averaging down. With every bit of overtime I could get I just kept buying....and losing. By the time I cashed out I had turned about $40k into about $5k. Good times! Ahhh...I feel a little queasy thinking about it right now. You see as someone who only knew the market as a one-way street (UP), I knew NOTHING about stops or shorting. Didn't hear about that kind of stuff on CNBC!

I've picked up a bit of knowledge over the past 5 years and I've gone from trading individual stocks to the Q's and now the YM exclusively. Since I'm a part-time trader I'm just looking for some extra pocket change. If things continue to progress, who knows....

Tim

Well your timing was right for a little bit anyway. I know my eyes were welling up with tears just typing about my blowup. You just don't get over something like that, ever...Do you? Are you on the Eagle side or the Steeler side of the state?

yes, since feb 06.

Cool...My hope is that within 8 years I will be fulltime. That is worst case scenario. I have a Dr friend that I used to chat with on Raging Bull all the time. We almost always agreed with our market calls and all of a sudden he disappeared. I haven't heard from him in about 3 years now so a couple of weeks ago I did a Google search on him. Found out that he is no longer doing surgery he is managing a 50 mil hedge fund. I knwo that isn't too big for hedgies but not bad either.

Nope. Still have trouble trusting any bullish move. And I love to short. And I'm super conservative which makes me jumpy when my trades start reversing on me.

Ugh! Eagles side. Pretty tough for a die-hard Cowboys fan! I've been to Dallas twice to see the Eagles play the Boys. First time, Eagles intercept and run it all the way back for a TD to sew up the game. Second time, Monday night, Eagles set up for game-winning field goal and they botch the snap. Cowboys win! I have never heard anything as loud as the fans at the end of that game! :D

I knew I liked you for some reason. I was stationed in DC for almost 5 years. I had a lot of fun wearing my Cowboy shirts around town. They were pretty good sports about though, I guess they had to be since we had been beating them pretty bad at the time.

Well, I'm not sure how this season is gonna turn out but I know one thing....it's gonna be interesting! I've been threatening the Eagles fans that I'm going to wear a T.O. jersey for the whole season...and I mean the WHOLE season day-in and day-out! :D
