Yes 35 good enough . We could save tax payers a lot of money by eliminating official votes and just asking 35 people in my neighborhood who they would vote for. Living in Utah, you would have a republican president for eternity !:D

I'd rather just reduce government by taking 36 or so "representatives" from red states (randomly chosen of course) and put everyone else in gov on the streets working to pay for all the taxes and entitlement programs they are proposing or refusing to address.
hehe

"Politicians for life"
(with the caveat that those failing to get an super majority vote of confidence each year are executed or sent to Iraq or the Mexican boarder to work as boarder guards ...) :p

Glad to see you understand humor as you understand the markets ! At least you show consistancy in your inability to understand anything.

i guess you're right b/c i have no understanding of what you just said.

But i do assert you were comparing apples to oranges before. 35 is a statistically significant sample. I only got an MBA from a perennial top 5 business school. I also got an "a" in statistics.

Furthermore, to compare sample sizes, to taking 35 votes and deducing election results is totally comparing apples to oranges. Of course, all the votes need to be counted in an election. Oh wait, you probably didn't take statistics, or maybe you didn't goto college, so you probably wouldn't understand.

Here's a gentleman on this very thread who understands statistics:

Agree, assuming a reasonably normal distribution, 36 samples is all that is generally required to get a statistically significant inference.

You can't just say 35 is "significant sample", it has to be in relation to the total population size.

also, these 35 people are taken within such a narrow focus group (ET) in relation to the diversity of all market participants.

you are correct in portions here. But I did create a "relation", as you said, it is to an ET poll/population.
I just didn't get into the specifics. And why would I, people like acm can't even understand it when i speak generally about samples.

Lastly, my deduction is predicated on large population samples. the example of this poll is just that, another example.

You know i've long given up on being specific on ET b/c of the maggots. You can thank bozente, apex capital etc for my silence. But in honor of MLK day, i'll give you this:

you missed many of the reasons, but this is my rationale in this order:

1) excessively high bullish sentiment
2) rising bond yields
3) the year before an election

these 3 reasons are more than enough to put the s&p on track for a negative year.

SPX cash traded 1433.93. Moderators please close this thread. I'm sure Thorn won't leave as promised and he'll tell us that SPX won't trade above 1856.12 for the next 7 years or he will leave for good. :)
