S&P Cash and trading

I have often seen how traders refer to "S&P Cash" when they are talking about trading equity indexes. Would someone who is familiar with this term and equity indexes give me some insight as to what "S&P Cash" really is and how it is related to trading equity indexes or any other instrument for that matter...?
