Seeing as one of the major events this year which affected the US markets was the whole Greece thing - and how that relates to the Eurozone, and hence Euro, I'd say this correlation, if any, is dependent and not necessarily relatable on a long-term scale.

After the steep drop off in each chart, there is a next dip is rounded in one and V-shaped in the other.

But if you notice the swings are identical. Number of bars and amplitude are different, but the count of swings is the same. All the way to the end of both charts.

They happened at the same time. One on 5 minute, the other 15 minute. That tells me there is an algorithm using leverage to control both markets.
