Russian Rambo, surrounded by ISIS, calls in airstrikes on himself

You're right, it was likely the best choice in the circumstances, but we should still give the man his due. In the heat of the moment and imminent capture, he might have simply taken his own life at the last moment of a losing battle to escape the horrors that would likely follow. But he had the presence of mind to take his would-be captors with him while they were still in his proximity. Even the right and obvious choice can sometimes require intestinal fortitude.

Yeah, I'm not criticizing him at all. I'm just saying that while it was a hard choice in normal circumstances, in his situation it actually wasn't - killing yourself by putting the barrel into your mouth is harder than closing your eyes and waiting for the bombs to drop...but that's my opinion only.

Okay, you do have a point. But I think we can all agree that he acted decisively and heroically under extreme duress.

I agree you have a point but as a courageous officer and soldier, his foremost effort would be to take out the enemy. In the circumstances as they are described, surely he would've considered shooting himself not an option or choice when he could call for an airstrike giving the best chance to eliminate them. I've a feeling bravery like that and terrible as the situation was, a gun in mouth, if the only or best option, would not have been a problem to him either.

Maybe he was outta ammo. : )

I give the man a warrior salute. If you gotta' go, and apparently he felt himself to be in that position, take out as many of the bastards as you can. Job well done.
