Russian Forces Use Syria As Military Proving Ground

So what's your suggestion for a sufficient action to remove Russia from the Crimea? Would you have even imposed economic sanctions?

The US had the chance to send a clear message to Russia when the jetliner from the Netherlands was shot down over the Ukraine. Obama could have issued a statement with teeth. He could have had a real action if the Ukranians cooperated with my proposed plan, which they likely would have.

Obama should have worked with Ukraine to allow US soldiers to secure the crash site. The crash site was 100% in Ukraine sovereign territory and they would have every right to do that. Once that is established Obama should have issue stating:

The airplane originated in a NATO country and is thus viewed as an attacked against a NATO country.

The US is doing everything possible to conduct a full investigation to determine who shot down this aircraft.

That includes sending US troops to secure the crash site.

Any hostility towards the US troops or investigation team will be considered an act of war and will be met with a fierce response.

You do this action, Putin's balls would have shriveled. When Obama did nothing it was a clear message.

Instead of doing anything real, Obama gave a speech and it was completely forgotten about the next day.

People seem to forget that the US Navy shot down an Iranian passenger plane heading to Dubai over the Persian Gulf in 1988. The Navy claimed they thought it was an Iranian F-14. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_Air_Flight_655

The Ukrainian shootdown could have happened in one of at least three ways. It could have been targeted accidentally by Russian or separatist forces or by Ukrainian forces. Obama probably did the right thing not to get involved because each of these scenarios has unpleasant ramifications. Additionally, investigating authorities have criticized Ukraine for not closing that air space in view of active fighting and earlier incidents.
