Yeah my impression is homophobic cursing is pretty popular in Ukraine unfortunately. That's why Sun etc. are tempted to adjust the translation. Now it's not the right time to tell the soldiers how they should curse, though.

It's still a soviet ,, legacy ", just a way to curse and having no actual meaning.
Ironically, gen Z, i doubt that they even use it anymore.

I return, as I do every other month or so, to make the point that Russia has its well known strengths, but it's weakness is air defenses and this will get even worse with the F-16s and the longer range ATACMS being allowed for use inside Russia.

Air defenses in Crimea are already stretched ungodly thin. That is why the Black Sea Fleet has been basically eliminated there or moved out. And the Russians know the Kerch bridge is a target so they have to keep adding to their defense there. But when the Ukrainians continue to attack Belgorod and Kursk etc and air bases further into Russia it forces them to move more and more of their air defenses to those areas leaving Crimea and Donbass front even more vulnerable.

Even if/when the Ukrainians are driven out of Kursk and even if the Ukrainians are not able to take Belgorod or the Russia airbases near Ukraine, the Ukrainians are succeeding in stretching their air defenses dangerously thin if you are a Russian and the consequences are becoming apparent.

The Russians are currently moving troops from Kaliningrad their enclave on the Baltic to Kursk??? C'mon man. These are not battle ready troops.

The issue that I have not seen addressed in various reporting on this invasion of Russia is the issue of what a difficult position this puts Lukashenko/Belarus in.

Lukashenko has put ENORMOUS amounts of energy into avoiding getting drawn into the war. He allows Putin to put nukes on Belarus soil. He says all sorts of scary things but it has always pissed Putin off endlessly that Belarus would not join the fight. Even though Putin propped up Lukashenko from an internal revolt. Putin thought it was given that he owned Lukashenko since Belarus is basically just another oblast/province in Russia now.

Nevertheless, Belarus took the risk of pissing Putin off even more by saying that as long as Ukraine stayed on its side of the border, Belarus troops would not become involved.

But Belarus is part of the Collective Security Agreement (Russia's version of NATO) and Russia has now been invaded. You can bet your arse that Putin is leaning on Lukashenko VERY hard right now. Luka is not going to do it though. His own people and own military will revolt, or large portions will anyway. Very fragile. And yet Putin will take Lukashenko out at some point down the road, just as he did with Prigo a while back if he does not produce.

What a mess.

Note to Lukashenko: Stay away from open windows.
