However, one can get the impression that you would favor Russia over the USA in every way?

There was a time when the USSR was comparatively stronger than NATO. Western Europe was pretty weak both economically and militarily for decades and a very real chance the USSR would prevail over NATO in a hot war.
Putin understands Russia on its own isn’t even as strong as France. His invasion of Ukraine was supposed to be the first step to building a new USSR and it’s more important that Putin be stopped here and now than most people understand.
