Successful by your definition perhaps. Not sure how military might reflects "success" in any way other than in the sense of winning wars. Certainly does not add one bit to satisfaction and happiness. Rather the opposite, if you need to maintain such military complex to watch your backs perhaps there is some shit of the past that you are not proud of and are afraid of blowback. And economic success. Certainly true, if you define success as sacrificing all other values in the pursuit to worship money. I could easily name 100 countries where people appear way happier and content than folks in the US. That rat wheel and constant pressure to keep up with the rest must be tiring...
