russia is the absolute and unchallenged world leader when it comes to alcoholism and stupidity.
See, this is the cause of hatred, ignorance. There are many great things in Russia and you zone in on 2 factors, not that you don’t have an issue with drugs and stupidity in the US.
On the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine the Chinese government called for a ceasefire and proposed a peace plan.

Beijing this week refused to back a UN vote condemning Moscow’s invasion.
China’s leader Xi Jinping has not called Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy since Russia’s invasion but has spoken with Vladimir Putin on several occasions.
China vows unconditional support for Russia.
Two faced Chinese as usual!

i have no idea if it could ever be possible for "russia" to evolve into any type of decent, modern, progressive, peaceful, free ... country - based on true democracy, rule of law, human rights, etc.

China is just talking their book. In reality, China wants the war to continue until Russia is defeated thus setting up the dissolution of the Russian Federation. This will allow China to effectively seize all the eastern regions of the former Russia federation.
This is coupled with having Russia be more dependent on China; effectively making Russia a vassal state.
Bottom line: Putin is Xi's little biatch.

Needless to say, Xi will not be pushing for peace. Any proposals for "peace" from China are just for show.

The only thing that will come out of this meeting is Xi's orders to Putin that put Russia on the path of being a vassal state in the long run.

China is playing the long game with Ukraine too.
They will be more than happy to rebuild/ invest in all those eastern ports and mining ventures in the Donbass if the Russians stay and also if they are moved out by the Ukrainians.
Ukraine will willing take their bucks, arguing that the Americans and the west have not given enough to rebuild. Xi can swing his Belt and Road initiative right through Ukraine. Not a prob.
