Russia & Ukraine

prigozin and kadirov might be useful idiots for mad vlad, but nevertheless - them being alive is too much of a risk in the long run.

Putin and the Russians need to understand the terms which are a starting point for negotiations -- including their total withdrawal from all Ukrainian occupied territory and war crime trials to hold the Russian leaders and military accountable.

Moscow starts "begging" for negotiations through mediators

Oleksii Danilov, the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council (NSDC), stated that Russia is beginning to "beg" for negotiations through intermediaries, yet Ukraine has set four simple conditions.

Source: Danilov in an interview for Radio NV

Quote: "Putin is giving orders to fully besiege Luhansk and Donetsk Oblasts. There is no secret behind it. Moreover, they are now starting to realize that they are definitely not able to reach those goals of occupying our country that they had previously set for themselves. This is why today they are begging. They are involving a whole pool of intermediaries.

At the moment they are conducting a huge work with separate groups in order to incline them towards negotiations. They are considering Brazil and whoever you can imagine as intermediaries. ‘Let us negotiate to somehow solve this issue.’"

Details: Danilov states that in turn, Ukraine set four simple conditions for Russia:
  1. Retreat from all Ukrainian territories that are now temporarily occupied
  2. Responsibility through the tribunal for those who started the war and who are killing children, seniors, and women who have nothing to do with warfare
  3. Security guarantees for Ukraine
  4. Accountability
Danilov stressed that accepting the terrorists' conditions is out of the question.

Quote: "This absurdity which is ongoing today has to come to an end sooner or later. We must put a full stop. When some think that we must be tamed somehow to start negotiating with Putin about something – well, of course. But Putin must fulfill our country’s conditions first. There is no other way."

Background:
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has outlined 10 proposals that comprise Ukraine’s "formula for peace" in his video address to the G20 summit in Bali.
  • Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the Ukrainian peace formula with US President Joe Biden. The American leader supported the idea of holding a peace summit.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s team plans to present a peace formula on or around 24 February 2023.
  • Oleksii Danilov, the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, is convinced that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s peace plan will be implemented in full and in compliance with the schedule. According to him, the longer the Kremlin sabotages President Zelenskyy’s 10 conditions for peace, the more catastrophic the situation for the Kremlin and the tougher Ukraine’s position.

Russians have apparently lost another general.

Y'all may have noticed that the Russian military is pretty fucked up. The paratrooper units are considered to be their most highly trained and esteemed. This guy was a top paratrooper and formerly commanded an airborne division, so he was no slouch.

But you may notice that when he was killed he was "commanding a regiment of mobilised motorised infantrymen from Tatarstan." He was outside his area of expertise and had a bunch of mobilized ethnic kids to work with. You can't make chickensoup out of chickenshit no matter how hard you try.

Another blow for Putin after 10th senior commander killed fighting in Ukraine

Vladimir Putin has lost yet another general in the war in Ukraine, according to reports.

Formerly retired Major-General Dmitry Ulyanov, 44, returned to active service as a commander in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

But he was killed in a firefight by a Ukrainian sabotage group earlier this week, reports claim.

Ulyanov was previously a top paratrooper, and commander of the elite 98th Guards Airborne Division.

He went to the current war commanding a regiment of mobilised motorised infantrymen from Tatarstan.

more cannon fodder?

Ukrainian official claims Russia plans to mobilize up to half a million extra soldiers

... bring it on.

Seeing that they are now sending their conscripts to the front with shovels rather than guns... yeah, pretty much cannon fodder. They should use the shovels to dig their graves in advance. In many ways the continual mobilization of under-equipped, untrained Russians is sad and tragic.

In other news, the US just supplies Ukraine with 1/2 a million more bullets. Republicans are trying to kill the deal but are torn as to who is a better master: Putin or Smith and Wesson.
Bullets are cheap. Half a million bullets, in bulk, are probably something like $100K. Depending on caliber.
