Ukraine says it never refused to negotiate with Russia, wants talks with Putin successor

KYIV, Nov 7 (Reuters) - A senior adviser to Ukraine's president said on Monday that Kyiv had never refused to negotiate with Moscow and that it was ready for talks with Russia's future leader, but not with Vladimir Putin.

The comments on Twitter by Mykhailo Podolyak followed a Washington Post report on Saturday saying the Biden administration was privately encouraging Ukraine's leaders to signal an openness to negotiate with Moscow.

"Ukraine has never refused to negotiate. Our negotiating position is known and open," he wrote on Twitter, saying that Russia should first withdraw its troops from Ukraine.

"Is Putin ready? Obviously not. Therefore, we are constructive in our assessment: we will talk with the next leader of (Russia)." (Reporting by Max Hunder; writing by Tom Balmforth; editing by Timothy Heritage)
 
Russia will fight a war of attrition, Putin has little concern for Russian lives. Ukraine can not win a war of attrition. The pace of the war needs to be stepped up in the Spring. In the meantime the West needs to give Ukraine the weapons and training needed to quickly bring the Russians to their knees, come Spring. And that means precision long distance strikes at military targets inside Russia, Crimea and at sea, and a virtually impenetrable air cover over Ukraine. The least expensive and most efficient way to bring this war to a close is to greatly step up the pace of assistance to Ukraine. Russia can only win this war if it becomes a drawn out war of attrition. That must not be allowed as an option for the Russians.

The West will fight a war of attrition too, they are nearly out of ammo, hence why the need for Putin to add cheap canon fodder to their arsenal.
Missiles are prolly more expensive and harder to come by than those press ganged into service and the compensation for dead bodies.
 
West must have guts to send planes so Ukraine can finish Russia off
It increasingly appears that the war in Ukraine is grinding into a stalemate. The maps of gains and losses have changed little over the past few weeks; a small gain here, a modest retreat there, but nothing like the large advances and withdrawals experienced by both sides earlier in the conflict.
