Already discussed ad nauseum, so I will just drop this article here and scoot.

But it goes with the discussion about how Vlad needs to watch his arse. Not only are some of his long time buddies and puppets not supporting him in Ukraine, they are also making moves to protect themselves from Vlad. Things are also shaky in Chechnya and Belarus. Although their leaders are Putin bootlickers, the people are not reliably pro-Putin and there is internal unrest- my impression anyway. Subject to correction by anyone who has knowledge.

(Maybe we should offer NATO membership to K-Stan. Whoa, easy Vlad...just a little joke there. Easy boy.)

Unless they knock down the bridges foundation -- which is very hard to do with rockets & artillery -- then it is very likely the bridge surface roadway will be quickly repaired in short order.

The holes in the bridge surface bear a resemblance to cratering via munitions at targeted airfield runways to stop operations -- which is also usually fixed within 24 to 48 hours with the proper equipment.

It is really an ammo/missile issue.

If they want that bridge and have the missiles to commit to it and rapped it hard like that every day for five days it would be a disaster.

If you punch out a hole in the decking of the bridge, yeh, that can be fixed. But ultimately all of that rebar and steel mesh that the concrete is poured over has to substantially hang together to maintain the strength of the deck. Everytime you blow out a section it weakens it. You can repair it by patching it and maybe that section is okay for an automobile but you cannot just keep patching the deck with bondo and duct tape with the steel mesh having been severed. You have remove, replace the mesh and repour.

As I put it a few days ago, they might be able to maintain auto passage after those light or partial hits, but if I were a tank commander trying to put a column of tanks over the bridge or some supply trucks, I might want to do a few Hail Mary's and sacrifice a couple chickens to give me a little confidence.

Ideally, some planes will come on to the scene and the himars will be used to take out the air defenses that threaten the planes and things work together. Such is war. Learn as you go and work with what you got, until you got something better.

I don't agree.
Airfield runways are build on solid ground. Bridges are hanging in the air. The tension on the steel reinforcements in the concrete is completely different. If a few important steel cables in a hanging bridge are destroyed, just filling the hole wil not give back enough strenght to keep the bridge hanging.
Filling the holes in a runway is not that critical as the runway cannot collapse like a bridge can as the runway uses the support of the underground to compensate for any strenght.
 
The other minor- or possibly major - factor that comes into play, is that those himar missiles seem to have ungodly accuracy. Those shots looked like they were systematically lined right up the bridge deck.

What I am getting at is that they probably all hit the deck because that is where they targetted them. And now have found that they work so-so.

Maybe next time they will target the abutments. I am not prepared to say that they do not have the ability to fine tune like that. Looks like they are good at what they do.
