Russia & Ukraine

Looks like Belarus has actively entered the fray on the behalf of Putin.

Ukraine Reports 'Massive' Attack From Belarus

Ukraine said it came under "massive bombardment" Saturday from neighbouring Belarus, a Russian ally not officially involved in the conflict, the day after announcing a retreat from the strategic city of Severodonetsk.

Twenty rockets targeted the village of Desna in the northern Chernigiv region, Ukraine's northern military command said in a statement, adding that infrastructure was hit, but no casualties had yet been reported.

Belarus has provided logistic support to Moscow since the February 24 invasion, particularly in the first few weeks, and like Russia has been targeted by Western sanctions -- but is officially not involved in the conflict.

"Today's strike is directly linked to Kremlin efforts to pull Belarus as a co-belligerent into the war in Ukraine," the Ukrainian intelligence service said.

The strikes came ahead of a planned meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin andimeets his Belarussian counterpart and close ally Alexander Lukashenko in Saint Petersburg on Saturday.

Russia's foreign ministry on Friday condemned the decision by Brussels to grant Ukraine official EU candidate status as a move to "contain Russia" geopolitically.

The decision "confirms that a geopolitical monopolisation of the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) space is continuing actively in order to contain Russia," foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement.

Ukraine's Western allies meanwhile will gather on Sunday at a summit of G7 leaders in Germany, where President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to speak.

US President Joe Biden will be attending the G7 and a summit of the NATO military alliance in Madrid next week.

In the face-to-face talks, the Western allies will take stock of the effectiveness of sanctions imposed so far against Moscow, consider possible new aid for Ukraine, and begin turning their eye to longer-term reconstruction plans.

The European Union offered a strong statement of support on Thursday when it granted Ukraine candidate status, although the path to membership is long.

Moscow dismissed the EU decision as a move to "contain Russia" geopolitically.

After four months, the conflict remains focused on the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, where Kyiv's forces have finally given up a key hold-out, the industrial city of Severodonetsk.

Sergiy Gaiday, governor of the Lugansk region that includes the city, said on Friday that the military had received the order to withdraw.

"Remaining in positions that have been relentlessly shelled for months just doesn't make sense," he said on Telegram, adding that 90 percent of the city had been damaged.

Severodonetsk has been the scene of weeks of street battles as outgunned Ukrainians put up a stubborn defence.

Capturing the city and its twin across the river, Lysychansk, would effectively give the Russians control of Lugansk, and allow them to push further into the wider Donbas.

But Ukraine's retreat from Severodonetsk will not change the course of the war, said Ivan Klyszcz, an international relations researcher at Estonia's University of Tartu.

"The big picture -- of a slow war of entrenched positions -- has hardly changed. We cannot expect a massive Russian breakthrough," he told AFP.

Separately, Russia said Saturday its troops had killed up to 80 Polish fighters in "precision strikes" on a factory in Konstantinovka" in the Donetsk region. The claim could not be independently verified.

Gaiday said Russians were now advancing on Lysychansk, which has been facing increasingly heavy bombardments.

The situation for those that remain in the city is bleak.

Liliya Nesterenko, who was cycling toward a friend's house to feed her pets, said her home had no gas, water or electricity, forcing her and her mother to cook on a campfire.

But the 39-year-old was upbeat about the city's defences: "I believe in our Ukrainian army, they should (be able to) cope."

Andrei Marochko, a spokesman for the Moscow-backed army of Lugansk, said Friday that all the villages in the neighbouring areas of Zolote and Hirske were now under the control of Russian or pro-Russian forces.

In a video on Marochko's Telegram channel, a man in military clothing could be seen replacing a Ukrainian flag featuring a Zolote coat of arms with a red hammer-and-sickle flag.

Russia's defence ministry said Friday that up to 2,000 people were "completely blocked" near Zolote and Hirske, and that around half of Zolote was under Russian control.

Russia has also intensified its offensive in the northern city of Kharkiv in recent days.

An AFP team on Saturday saw a 10-storey administrative building in the city-centre hit by missiles overnight, causing a fire but no casualties.

It had already been bombed, prompting one soldier on the scene to note: "The Russians are finishing what they started."

On Friday, the same reporters found a stray dog eating human remains in the town of Chuguiv, southeast of Kharkiv, where an attack earlier this week left six dead.

In the southern Kherson region, a Moscow-appointed official was killed by an explosive device planted in his car, Russian news agencies reported.

It was the first confirmed death of a pro-Russian official during a string of attacks on pro-Kremlin officials in Ukrainian regions under Russian control.

When is Lukashenko going to send troops in?

They be going home in body bags.

Lukashenko might end up in a fridge himself, there's huge undeground opposition against him.

Yes. I am actually aware of that. Putin sent Russian troops in to help keep Lukashenko from being ousted. So he is artificially propped up.

Of course Vlad is pissed at Lukashenko too because he/Lukashenko won't send troops in - so far anyway- even though Vlad figures he owes him a return favor.

Exact same situation in Kazhakistan/too. Vlad sent troops in to prop the leader up, but then refused to send troops to Ukraine at Vald's request. Vlad not happy but he can't afford to see either one of them overthrown either.

I know you know all that. just musing a little.

Yup, saw Kazachstan situation, the only leader to arrive into some meeting & even he spilled something like ,,We're not Russian puppets"

Yep. The other little thing that pisses Vlad off is that Kazakhstan/sp refuses to recognize the states in the donbas.........luhansk, donetsk whatever that Vlad declared to be independent.

Some say that K-stan is just refusing to recognize those fake states because they want to avoid the full set of western sanctions. Others say it is because K-stan itself is nervous about Putin's ambitions and want him to stay home so they do not want to encourage him with his creative ideas about what is and is not part of Russia. Vlad really puts them in a bad spot.

Russia gains upper hand in war with Ukraine

(31 May 2022) As the war in Ukraine enters its fourth month, there are increasing signs that Russian forces have the advantage. Ukrainian forces in Mariupol finally surrendered two weeks ago while Russia has made important advances in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions in recent days. While the Ukrainian army has been bolstered from weapons donated from various Western countries, the much larger Russian army appears to be prevailing in the disputed eastern border provinces.

The challenging military situation is bad news for Ukraine's President Zelenskiy who has become a popular symbol of resistance in the West. As we can see in Zelenskiy's horoscope, the planetary outlook in the coming months looks difficult for him and Ukraine.

As of April 2021, he is running the Moon-Jupiter dasha period. This is a positive dasha combination since the Moon is well-placed in its own sign of Cancer in the 3rd house (efforts/action and it is powerfully aligned with several outer planets -- Pluto (power), Neptune (charisma) and Uranus (originality). It is also conjunct the unequal 4th house cusp and opposite the 10th house cusp (MC).

Taken together, these alignments infuse the Moon with much more strength and is one reason why Zelenskiy has become an international statesman and celebrity during 2022. The Moon's wide conjunction with Mars (conflict, violence) is perhaps one reason why he has risen to fame during wartime. Minor dasha lord Jupiter is also very favourably placed as it is close to the Ascendant in Gemini and forms a mutual reception and opposition aspect with Mercury in Sagittarius.

So far, so good. But the Moon-Jupiter period will give way to the much less auspicious Moon-Saturn period in August 2022. Not only is Saturn a natural malefic, but it is closely aligned with Mercury (135 degrees) and Mars (30 degrees). While these alignments are not full-strength Vedic aspects, they are close enough to their respective divisor angles that Saturn's period is more likely to bring suffering as a result. Therefore, from the dasha periods alone we would expect his fortunes to deteriorate during Moon-Saturn from August 2022 until March 2024.

The current transits add another layer to the analysis. Saturn afflicts his 9th house of luck and foreign affairs while Neptune detracts from his 10th house of status and career. This malefic alignment appears to be quite strong in his chart since it closely aligns with the Ascendant within just a few degrees. This is largely a negative influence since the combined energies of Saturn and Neptune suggest weakness, loss and disappointment. The situation is made more onerous since Saturn will station retrograde this Saturday, June 4 and begin its four-month long backwards journey through his 9th house. That double whammy of the Saturn-Neptune influence will therefore remain close at hand throughout June at least.

Zelenskiy's situation will likely become much worse in the summer and early fall as Uranus, Rahu and Mars (24 Aries) will all line up and square his Moon in late July and early August while Saturn will station direct at 24 Capricorn in Sep-Oct exactly opposite his Moon. Since his Moon-Saturn dasha period is scheduled to begin in August, it seems highly likely that Zelenskiy will face his toughest challenge yet.

While it is possible that Ukraine may be able to avoid the worst of his karmic fallout, the fact that he is president suggests that Ukraine is likely to also suffer. Overall, it is hard to see how Ukraine can defeat the Russian or even hold them to a stalemate that produces a negotiated peace. If there is a peace agreement under these transits, the Ukraine is almost certain to lose a significant part of its territory.

Weekly Market Forecast

Despite a small pullback in Tuesday's session, US stocks remain in rebound mode from their recent lows. As expected, last week's Mercury-Venus-Pluto alignment did coincide with some strong late week gains.
This week looks less positive than last week though. Not only is Saturn approaching its retrograde station on Saturday, June 4, but Mercury is also due to end its retrograde cycle and station direct on Friday, June 3. This near-simultaneous stationing of two planets is quite unusual. Moreover, Mercury and Saturn will form a fairly close square alignment, within one degree. Mercury-Saturn aspects tend to be bearish anyway, but the double stations make that outcome more likely. While I'm generally not as gloomy about the market as some analysts, it's harder to make a bullish case this week.

Putin is running out of generals...

BRING OUT THE BIG GUNS
Desperate Putin ‘calls up obese 20st retired general, 67,’ to lead troops in Ukraine after ‘running out of commanders’

General Pavel is said to scoff five meals a day washed down with at least a litre of vodka

VLADIMIR Putin has called a morbidly obese general out of retirement to lead his troops in Ukraine as he is running out of senior officers, reports claim.

The Russian despot is now "scraping the barrel" and relying on 20st vodka-swilling General Pavel, 67, to revive his faltering invasion.

He is said to be in charge of Putin's special forces in eastern Ukraine after the unit's former commander was seriously injured in an artillery strike, a source told the Daily Star.

The hulking veteran reportedly served in Russia's bungled invasion of Afghanistan in the 1980s and has over four decades' experience under his straining belt.

General Pavel first became a commander of elite troops 25 years ago, but had settled into high-calorie retirement.

He reportedly scoffs five meals a day and washes it down with at least a litre of vodka.

The general was reportedly living in a Moscow suburb after hanging up his boots five years ago, but is said to have been ordered to return to the Russian army last month.

But Pavel is no longer in his prime - in fact, he is so overweight he has to have his uniform specially made.

And the 67-year-old sports two sets of body armour to cover his expansive torso.

A senior intelligence source said: "Putin is now scraping the barrel.

"Most of his best and battle-hardened senior commanders have been killed or injured fighting in Ukraine so he is resorting to sending second-rate officers to the front who don’t last very long.

"He is now dragging generals out of retirement and one of those is General Pavel.

"Putin is like a mafia boss who no one can refuse to obey.

"If a retired general gets a message from Putin saying mother Russia needs you to fight in Ukraine there is not much you can do. There is no escape from Russia thanks to the sanctions."

The warmonger is digging up washed-up veterans to fill gaps in his fragile army after carrying out a pitiless purge of his generals.

Several of his top brass have been given the boot from key roles this week alone, as his mass clearout continues.

Some nine generals and 55 colonels have reportedly been killed during the costly war in Ukraine, leaving the dictator grasping at straws.

Russian air ace Lt-Col Sergey Gundorov, 51, died in a fireball when a Ukrainian solider shot down his helicopter.

Video showed the moment a missile hit the low-flying Mi-35M chopper, sending it cartwheeling through a field.

And another of his top commanders, Major General Andrei Simonov, is said to have been killed during a rocket strike.

The attack also reportedly destroyed over 30 armoured vehicles, including tanks, and killed around 100 Russians.

Russia is thought to have lost as many as 50,000 men during the blood-soaked conflict, prompting Putin to purge his top adviser.

Colonel-General Andrey Serdyukov, 60, was ditched for the "mass casualties" among the despot's elite paratroopers, it's claimed.

It comes amid fears the Russian President is may be purging his inner circle after four recent "suicides" of gas industry executives linked to the tyrant.

In April, the suicides were labelled "suspicious" by Russian sources including a former FSB colonel on the Telegram messaging channel.

Man, that's a lot of beef on the hoof right theya.

At first I thought that Chris Christie had signed up to go to Ukraine but took a wrong turn. Glad to see that that is not the case.
