Russia & Ukraine

There is no doubt at all in my mind that Putin did not expect this type of resistance. Georgia and the Crimea were a walk in the park until he hit the wall here.

Yep, and I was wondering about that again earlier today.

Because- I was thinking that Russians are in a good place with all this artillery but they have been using a lot of ammunition too with massive shelling of cities day and night and they used quite a bit up in Kyiv even though they eventually left.

But they did not expect this situation to go as long as it has and will. We still have weeks/months to go. Soooooooooo.......what I am getting at is that all of that artillery is great as long as you ammunition. Logistics and supply is not their stong point. If the "geniuses" in Moscow- Putin included- figured they had enough supply to take Kieve so "let's go" then guess what, they have already run through what they needed for Kyiv and the couple other towns they had in mind. They will start out strong in the east but a month will make a lot of difference.

The Chinese are having to do a difficult balancing act here. Xi has the big chinese communist party meeting coming up in the fall that- it is argued- will basically decide whether he is there for life or not. And he cannot afford to go riding into that meeting with the chinese economy on in the shiiter (already bad signs) especially as covid is dishing out a beating. So Xi sees this as the best time to bring Russia in a vassal-state-to-be by siding with them in their time of need, but at the same time he cannot get so close to Russia that he starts taking the economic hits that Putin is receiving. His number one goal is to be looking good going into that party meeting.

Big mistake for Vlad to cozy up to the Chinese. Even though the west is sick of Vlad and all of his "Russian World" beating his chest day in and day out, we can be pretty tolerant as long as the Russians behave themselves. As they become a vassal state of China, the Chinese will water down Russian culture - or any culture- bigtime. The Chinese don't want to hear about all that Czar Nicholas, Orthodox Church, Prince of Kiev in Rus 1000 A.D bullshit that Vlad lives for. The Russians and the Chinese (as with the Chinese and the Japanese) have a nasty history and the Chinese will let Putin know that he is the junior partner in that arrangement.

Putin really fucked up on this one. It would have been better to work out a better deal with the west, which - contrary to his assertions- really did not have all those designs on attacking Russia. But he got greedy again and thought that Ukraine was a low hanging fruit- so now he is the village idiot in a chinese village- just add time into the mix for it to happen. He basically sold out Russia. Not going to be remembered as Peter the Great that way.

I would actuall like to be on good terms with the Russians and have them in the non-Chinese orbit but that is a lost cause now. If i get a tweet from Putin saying that he is in his bunker and is going to shoot himself and is just saying goodbye, well then maybe we can talk about Russian relations again in better times. Until then, the Russians should start brushing up on their Mandarin or Cantonese because they don't need to know English.

I don’t know, in the long run the Russians will have to come to the west because the Chinese will eat them alive. The real battle is the west vs China in the long run.

This is not saying the next decade or so won’t be ugly between the west and Russia just the long run puts the Russians on our side then it’s gay pride and transgender bathrooms all the way to the Chinese border.

That is because Russia is basically fighting NATO due to weapons supplies, hi-tech intel and provision of advisors and ‘guns for hire’ and not to forget that Russia, despite what is being so actively and widely reported, is not involved in genocide, I also happen to know guys defending their homes in Donbas and their info is entirely different from what I hear on boards such as this one, they tell me if Putin wanted to wipe out Ukrainian people, he could have easily achieved this by carpet bombing and then strolling in with tanks, choppers and continued air strikes. There is a lot of propaganda going on, just like during any war, both sides twist and manipulate information to their advantage. I know Ukrainian people just like I know Russian people, basically the same mentality, no matter how much Ukrainians wish to separate themselves from Russian mentality, pretty much identical, apart from the hardcore nationalists that live mostly in the West of Ukraine.

That's what I said. If they want to be Russian they need to be closer to the west because we will tolerate their little Russian World games as long as they behave themselves, whereas the Chinese presence will just goggle them up. But by the time Putin realizes that, the Chinese will have him and Russia by the balls- if not already. So I would change your words only slighty to say instead of "the Russians will have to come to the west" to "the Russians will want to come to the west IF THEY CAN." Again, although the Putin apologists will disagree with this, I say that the west really does not bother Putin all that much as long as he does not get too adventuresome- which seems to be difficult for him. Fine, tell them in Bejing all about the history of Russia a dozen times a day as you do with the west and see how interested they are.

US intelligence believes the reconstituted Russian force in the east is at two-thirds its size pre-invasion. Mind you all now, that is with reinforcements and mercenaries. The Russians have sustained a major loss in the first seven weeks of these numbers are close to accurate.

This whole thread is good, I suggest starting at the top. Concerning that Russian artillery is getting better at location. I don’t know it that is to be expected with more open land in western Ukraine or if the Russians are showing signs of improvement.

Russian skills in the Donbas will be a mixed bag. They have the newbies arriving who were working at McDonald's in Moscow five weeks ago.

But Russia/Ukraine have been at war there for eight years and some the artillery units have done nothing but fire artillery day in and day out and are good at what they do.

On the other hand, the Ukrainians have had fighters there too. It's just that the Russians have so many more now. Tough situation.

Aren’t you married to a Russian? Makes you a total twat to think of Russians as mass murders and rapists when you are married to one. Maybe she will just kill you in your sleep one night, you should be so worried.

No, I am not married with a Russian. I am married with a Ukrainian. She lived in Kiev.
Don't take your wishes for reality.
I am not worried, I think Putin has far more worries than me. ROFLMAO.
Your argument is hilarious.
