You honor the propagandist who posted it way too much. That wall of text was not written by Putin, it is pure stupid propaganda. Straight out of Der Sturmer, Julius Streicher style. The funny thing is the poster thinks it will convince anyone.
Are you suggesting that posts you deem as propaganda should not be responded to?
My responses are based on perceived facts or at least my reasoning. I post my reasoning for all to view and challenge if they want. My ideas may support or denigrate another’s point of view or parts thereof. As so often the case, there are at least some valid points made by a side whose overall position we may not agree with. Again, facts are facts, even if we don’t like the person stating them.
As far as propaganda is concerned, consider the following elements of propaganda:
1. The entity initiating the propaganda has an issue they deem important and need either the cooperation or consent by others in some way.
2. The fact set surrounding the issue is deemed insufficient to sway public or international opinion in the propagandist’s favor.
3. The propagandist will then often look to justify their position using various emotional triggers to outright lies.
4. The propagandist will monitor the effectiveness of their campaign through polls, social media comments, and input from within their own organization.
5. Some entities, such as authoritarian regimes, that engage in propaganda have a poor internal feedback or checks and balances system, often leading to conclusions that are not based on reality. This can lead to policy decisions, including decisions related to foreign affairs, that are counterproductive to them and others on the world stage. Social media can provide valuable feedback to those authoritarian regimes.
I believe we have a civic duty to post information we believe is true and to challenge information of others that does not seem to be true. It is through these efforts we increase the value of social media as a resource, a resource that can present the ideas of billions of people, based on their own unique experiences, that can have apply to a situation at hand, and potentially help us find a better outcome to a situation than it would otherwise be without such interaction.
