No. You’re missing the point. Biden’s comments more impact US to Russia relations. There’s sanctions issues to think about going forward and conflict avoidance channels we would like to have.

However, the Ukrainians making the argument has merit and rationale. They theoretically can make the call for regime change in Russia without much loss.

Thats not it, IMO. From Putin’s side it can give an out for a purging of opponents, ie “the Americans are attempting to remove me and this oligarch or military person is in cahoots…”

But from our side we have a whole sanctions package that is globally interconnected with a lot of countries that is supposed to be connected to the Ukrainian war. We don’t really want those conversations to morph into a narrative of regime change. It can divide us if start to unilaterally move goal posts without consultation.

Now I am seeing some talking heads saying it’s like in 1980s when Reagan labeled Russia the Evil Empire because it was off of the cuff and threw things out of order. I don’t see it that way because as I said above, we are interconnected with a lot of countries on this issue. We really should move forward united.
