The dollar is still the cleanest shirt in the laundry pile. No disrespect to Dr. KeeWee but money is access to markets. To “kill” the US dollar you have to kill the US market. This is the reason the dollar is incredibly strong right now because of all of the markets in the world you want access to the American market. China is faltering as we speak. That real estate market is teetering. The Russians have made themselves persona non grata with their barbaric and savage invasion of Ukraine. So the US, Europe and Japan remain dominant because there really is not much competition. Authoritarians simply cannot compete in the free market.
What I will say is that Putin did a wonderful job with the Russian economy during his tenure. Yes it was oligarchy based etc but he moved the Russians to be a resource producer from a failed industrial state. It really was fantastic work. Then he threw it all down the toilet. So much potential just thrown away. Truly stupid.
It reminds me of Die Hard, when the helicopter crashes and the chief says “we’re going to need some more fbi guys.” Yeah, something like that only over and over and over again.
