Russia & Ukraine

Here he is saying ....''We kept the Syrian oil'' , was that to liberate the Syrians from Saddam also?

Trump echoes one of his favorite lies: 'We kept the oil'
Trump's insistence that the U.S. "kept" Syrian oil is quickly becoming one of his favorite lies, but its repetition does not make it any less false.

During Donald Trump's town-hall event on Fox News last night, the president turned his attention to the Middle East, where he thinks he has a positive story to tell.

"[W]e did leave soldiers [in Syria]. We left soldiers because I kept the oil. And I was always against Iraq -- going into Iraq. I think it was one of the worst -- maybe the worst decision ever made. But I used to say, once they were in there, keep the oil. They never kept the oil. We have an oil area in -- near Syria and in Syria, we kept it. So the only soldiers I have over there, they're guarding the oil. We kept the oil. So we kept the treasure. That's OK."

The idea that Trump was "always against" the 2003 invasion of Iraq is clearly one of his favorite lies, but its repetition does not make it any less ridiculous.
To pay for our costs idiot. He didn't take any oil from anyone. You are extremely anti-American and dishonest AF.

Although it is a bit of an obscure story right now, I think it is noteworthy- as I mentioned in passing the other day- that Kazakhstan/sp is distancing itself bigtime from Putin over this matter and they are supposed to be a Putin buddy.

K-stan has refused Putin's request to send troops to Ukraine, they have refused to recognize the breakaway provinces in Ukraine and they are sending humanitarian aid to Ukraine. NOT THE WAY THE SCRIPT IS SUPPOSED TO GO.

This hurts Putin bigtime in his relations with China too because China's playbook is to have the west alienate Putin, then Russia becomes more dependant on China and China uses Vlad's alleged closeness and tighness with the Central Asian states to help China exploit/increase its control in Central Asia. WOMP!!!! Otherwise, they think Puting is the village idiot and the junior partner in any agreements with China. If Vlad loses influence in Central Asia what does he bring to the table? Just oil. And now Russia is too poor to continue to help Venezuela revitalize its oil production- the largest oil reserve in the world. But China and the US do have the dollars to go down that road with VZ.

Okay, enough. Just felt like sticking a few things up Putin's arse.

All of this. Putin gambled and got in deep with the sharks. The Chinese are going to exploit the bejeebus out of the Russians if these sanctions last. The Russians are coming face to face with what the world looks like after getting economic ties severed with the west while having your military exposed for all of its weaknesses.

I have maintained that Putin has to go for Russia to have a viable future. The only way to reconnect with the west, meaning re-enter the global market and has access to various markets, is for Putin to go. If they cannot diversify their business and become dependent on China they become a welfare state.

Mostly agree, though it is hard to be a welfare state with so much energy the west buys.

Well that's just great, we were going to NY for six months for my wife to do a course and the course head has cancelled it as he is moving his family out because they fear living at ground zero. I have an assistant hired for her and all.

Fair enough I guess, sign of the times. May change again.

It changes the calculus of how Venezuela will be examined. Or let us just say there will be re-looks.

We were not dealing with VZ because of the brutal dictator and his humanitarian abuses but are still dealing with Putin. What's wrong with that picture.

Just sayin, it is an opportune time for some arrangement whereby VZ oil is developed/begins to flow, whatever. An arrangement wherein a per cent of revenue goes to an internationally supervised commission that confirms that the dollars are going to food, medical care, human type things. I don't know. Not going to work out the details here. Just making the point that some things need a re-look.

Of course Maduro is still in love with Putin and Rosneft the big russian oil outfit is working with them-which was broke even before this latest round, I mean their VZ operation . I know all that. But I also know that it is a new world since last week. Lots of state players out there looking for new buddies. The US included. I can plug my nose for Maduro as easily as for Putin and I am not worried about Venezuela's military.
