Russia tried to destroy US-made Patriot system in Ukraine, officials say

Russia tried to destroy a US-made Patriot air defense system in Ukraine last week with a hypersonic missile, two US officials told CNN.

The attack failed, and the Ukrainian military instead intercepted the missile using the Patriot system, the officials said, marking their first known successful Ukrainian use of the advanced air defense system only weeks after it arrived in country.

Is Lukashenko dead?

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko was rushed back to Minsk almost directly from Red Square in Moscow on May 9 suffering from a serious butmysterious illness and hasn't been seen since. The Belarus strongman is clearly seriously ill and some are asking if he is already dead.

President Vladimir Putin was reportedly shocked by the poor shape Lukashenko was in when they met in person on Red Square for the annual Victory Day parade. Lukashenko skipped the traditional leaders' breakfast and had to be driven in an electric cart the 300m around the corner from Red Square to the flame of the Undying Soldier just outside the Kremlin walls. Pictures posted on social media seem to show an IV catheter protruding from his suit sleeve. From the memorial to the war dead he was driven directly to the airport with an ambulance in tow and flown home, according to reports.

Putin has reportedly tried to call him in the following days without success and the Belarus authorities have yet to comment. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed questions on Lukashenko's health, referring journalists to the president’s office in Minsk.

Nevertheless, Lukashenko is ill.

Maybe, as I said, he just got into a bad batch of the guacamale dip over at Putin's party and he will be better tomorrow.

But he is not well today and has not been well enough to show up anywhere since he left Moscow ill on May 9.

The bandage "on his right arm" actually was on his right hand. Looked like he has been having blood drawn or some type of IV infusion. He is dealing with some kind of treatment.

Self-proclaimed Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko did not appear at the celebration of the Day of the State Flag, State Emblem and National Anthem of Belarus on 14 May following the news of his deteriorating health.

Meanwhile, Lukashenko was photographed at the event with a visible bandage on his right arm and was the only head of state in attendance who did not join Putin in laying down flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, fueling speculation about his health. He then allegedly returned to Minsk early due to health reasons, rather than attend a meal with Putin and other leaders.
