There is a lot of game-playing going. Obviously, he could just be using brinksmanship to get more supplies. Why wouldn't that be a possibility. He has done it before.

What is more problematic to Putin is that has actually upped his brinksmanship and gameplaying. He is saying that he will leave Bakhmut but that Wagner is not going away and will return "when Russia needs them." That's a direct message to the fsb and the hardliners that they need to fix that Shoigu/Gerasimov/Putin disaster and that he/Prigo is available to serve in that process and to serve Russia. Ouch.

The other major gameplayer in this scenario is Kadyrov who has announced that if Wagner leaves, he is willing, ready, and able to send Chechen soldiers to backfill. Kadyrov, of course, has openly said that one of his goals is to establish his own paramilitary group just like Wagner. So Kadyrov/sp is just like Prigo. On even numbered days he is helping Putin- but on odd numbered days he is working to move him out and replace him. As the saying goes: "With friends like that, who needs enemas?"

Russia has no authority over the Ukraine. I'm not saying we should invade Russia. We need to secure the area in the Ukraine and if Russian backed rebels try to stop that we have every right to kill them. Putin won't do shit in that circumstance, but we're too frightened to stand up to him.

Your post is saddening to me because it illustrates why I have such a cynical point of view regarding the future of our country. If good Americans like yourself take such a myopic worldview as to believe we can simply watch the world burn without the embers eventually ending up on our shores, then we're done.

I know good Americans like yourself are war weary. Weary of watching one failure after another. It's not our involvement that is the problem, it's the implementation. The only thing I can agree with is that if we're only going to stick our toe in the shallow end of the pool then recoil at the chill, we would be better off doing nothing at all, because all we accomplish is to stir the hornets nest and then run for cover. (Sorry for the mixed metaphors).
We're going to lose all of this one day and I suppose future historians will ask, did they really think that they could just be cheap seat spectators while expecting the fame and fortune of the players on the field?
