Russa Invades Georgia - Full Scale Invasion

A possible more positive outcome for the minority people in the break-away regions of Georgia, as well as Europe and Russia itself - could be if Russia stopped further incursion into Georgia and showed the world media that their foremost interests are defending the civilian population that was coming under attack, and getting a binding commitment from Georgia that they will not further attack the regions.

That way, they could calm Europe somewhat, although the damage has already been done to some extent.

But if the minorities can continue under russian protection, as well as the russians being able to foil further increase in Georgias military capabilities, then this could have a less positive effect for the US - although they are still the winners.

However, I truly hope that the russians will keep a somewhat cool head so that they can keep things "calm" and then go on to show the Ukraine and Europe that they mean no threat - while still preserving their strategic security goals in their bordering regions.

Well - a thought anyway ...

the latest from the russian president is that they will NOT push further into Georgia and will return to defend the minority regions.

LOL - lets see if they also can get damage control under way here ... some hefty diplomatic activity is needed with Europe and the Ukraine to correct some of the damage done here. Undoubtly, the US and Georgia will push further on Europe for not trusting Russia - and the EU should not trust neither Russia nor blindly trust the intentions of the US, in my opinion ...

It is rather comforting to see the russians go for the smartest move here. There are some bright heads there too, for sure. I wonder what will be the political fallout here - if Russia can expose more of the buildup towards this conflict - or if it will remain behind closed chambers by the respective diplomatic efforts and be swept under the rug for the time being.

Time will tell. At least it seems that some plans have been foiled.
 
It is pretty darn wonderful to be roaming the Internet and analyzing news stories and backgrounds - and then actually seeing the big picture despite all the propaganda and disinformation attempts that seem to prevail in the media.

Nice to see logics and rationalizing efforts working - even in some political circles.

The media onslaught by the georgian president will perhaps diminish somewhat now -- hehe, they are probably planning how they should handle how the events panned out so quickly.

Undoubtedly we will be further bombarded by propaganda in the days to come. Some signs of intellect in this process is a bit comforting, though ...

Jewish Georgian Minister Temur Yakobshvili on Sunday praised the Israel Defense Forces for its role in training Georgian troops and said Israel should be proud of its military might, in an interview with Army Radio.

"Israel should be proud of its military which trained Georgian soldiers," Yakobashvili told Army Radio in Hebrew, referring to a private Israeli group Georgia had hired.

Yakobashvili, Georgia's minister of reintegration, added that this training provided Georgia with the know-how needed to defend itself against Russian forces in the clashes which erupted last last week in the separatist region of South Ossetia. Advertisement


Yakobashvili said that a small group of Georgian soldiers had able to wipe out an entire Russian military division due to this training.

"We killed 60 Russian soldiers just yesterday," said Yakobashvili. "The Russians have lost more than 50 tanks, and we have shot down 11 of their planes. They have enormous damage in terms of manpower,"

Yakobashvili warned that the Russians would try and open another battlefront in Abkhazia and he denied reports that the Georgian army was retreating. "The Georgian forces are not retreating. We move our military according to security needs."

"There was no attack on the airport in Tbilisi. It was a factory that produces combat airplanes," said Yakobashvili referring to the attacks in the country's capital.

"The whole world is starting to understand that what is happening here will determine the future of this region, the future price of crude oil, the future of central Asia, and the future of NATO," the Georgian minister added.

According to him, "every bomb that falls over our heads is an attack on democracy, on the European Union and on America."

Two El Al Israel Airlines plane set off on Tuesday on special flights to Tbilisi in order to evacuate Israeli nationals waiting to leave war-torn Georgia.

The first El Al flight left Tuesday morning to rescue 190 Israelis from Georgia, organized after Arkia Israel Airlines said on Monday that it would be unable to fly out the more than 100 Israeli nationals waiting to leave Georgia, because radars at Tbilisi International Airport have been bombed beyond function.

Listening to the rally and enraged speakers in Tblisi, it's obvious that we are seeing damage control by georgian leadership to round up further support for their previous attacks on the ethnic minorities and support for their decisions taken in this conflict.

Some international political analytics are now also pointing out the tension points between Russia and NATO - but avoiding to mention the US or Israel at all - at least in the western media so far.

It also seems like the blame is being shuffled entirely on the georgian president "who seems to have miscalculated the support from US and NATO".

Yeah, right ...

Actually, the israeli army while small, is very good however they had a HUGE technology advantage over their foes for nearly 50 years due to the US....its pretty obvious now ( and judging by their war with Hezbollah last year) that the gap has narrowed.
