Rumsfeld cutting to the chase

Memo to retired Gen. McCafferty:

Bill Clinton, the President you disgraced your uniform by serving, obviously has shown he has no concept of proper conduct. Likewise, the other former president from your party, Jimmie Carter, has made despicable attacks on our country. One would hope that as a former general officer, you at least had the dignity and honor to know when to keep your mouth shut. I know being paid to pontificate on things that you know little about is intoxicating, but in the future have the decency to refrain from voicing idiotic opinions like your statement that we don't have adequate numbers of troops to do the job. This kind of backstabbing is not appreciated by the troops in the field, as much as your television paymasters may love it. Perhaps you could apologize during your next appearance for giving hope and encouragment to the enemy of troops you once commanded.

You almost got that right this time. The legal basis for the invasion is indeed based on Iraqi's violation of ceasefire agreement regarding destruction of their WMD. Of course it does not exclude fear of the weapons being used, it rather implies that the fear does exist.

There most certainly is fear Iraq will use the WMD against its neighbors as they did before. This by the way does not make them terrorists, It makes them aggressors and violators of UN resolutions prohibiting usage of WMD.

There is even greater fear that Iraqi WMD will end up in the hands of terrorist organizations and be used not by Iraq directly but by those organizations.

ahhh - now that you put it that way, maybe. as rumsfeld himself has shown, insults usually help a solid argument seem even stronger. and condescension is always welcome :)

The Iraqi people are not terrorists but Iraqi government does sponsor terrorist organizations. Their links with Al-Caeda have not been convincingly proven (and may not exist), but their links with other terrorist organizations are well-known and undeniable.

And yes Iraq violated 17 UN resolutions and ceasefire agreement.
 
FWIW- Rumsfeld didn't say the Fedayeen Saddam-
non-uniformed paramilitary forces, were "terrorists." He said they were "essentially terrorists."
