Rules preventing foreigners from trading US markets?

Can someone provide me with info regarding if it's allowed for foreigners to trade the US markets.

Example: Someone in India trading the US markets with a dollar-denominated account.

I think anyone who is going to trade the US stock market should be a citizen or permanent resident or authorized to work in the US. I don't think the SEC will let anyone trade the markets regardless where the traders are.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong..

I was looking at some application materials of a prop trading firm and one of the documentation that I need to provide is a copy of the US passport or the green card or the work authorization.

That is a lot different than just trading in the US markets!!!!

I used to own controling interest in a US broker dealer.

It is not a problem for MOST foreign nationals to trade the US markets.
