I went to Cuba in 1999. If you were a tourist, or a visitor conducting business, it was very nice. However, 99% of Cubans have a very low standard of living. The most coveted jobs were in the tourist industry because Cubans received tips in US dollars. Back then, the US dollar was the only currency a foreigner could use.
