Roy Cooper - We shouldn't allow rich people to send their kids to private schools on public dime

As reminder, the biggest proponent in the legislature who pushed vouchers (the misnamed "Opportunity Scholarships") and private schools in North Carolina is also known for stating (paraphrased) - "Decent middle-class people should go to private Christian schools, public schools are for (N-word here) and white trash". I covered this in posts in the distant past.

"Opportunity Scholarships" (vouchers for private schools) already exist in our state. This current vote in the legislature is about greatly increasing the funding and number of "Opportunity Scholarships" in North Carolina.

I should note that over 95% of the existing North Carolina "Opportunity Scholarships" went to white middle-class (or better) families who sent their children to private Christian schools.

Anyone who is pushing that giving these vouchers to private schools is about "opportunity" is pushing pure hypocrisy. The intent is to provide the money to white middle-class (or better) families who send their children to private Christian schools. There is no intent to uplift minorities or the poor via these vouchers to provide improved education or opportunity for them.

Health care is not the same as education... health care is completely private for the most part. The idea is if you are poor you have zero health care. If you are poor you still have free education. So the two are not the same.

If you are poor, you have no health care, except the government can provide a funding source (think Medicare, Medicaid, Obamacare, where you can in turn exercise choice about which private (or occasionally public) provider that you want to go to. And by the way, those programs can be used to pay for servies down at the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital, the Catholic Sisters of Mercy clinic, whatever.

But the teachers union have taught you that education is always a special case.

He does not want to do it at the expense of making schools worse for the majority of students.

I'd agree with a voucher system for all making schools compete for the voucher and a few public schools for kids with disciplinary problems but if the main educational system is public schools money shouldn't be taken from the majority of kids to give to a few imo.

this "school choice" marketing is just the latest grift to sell cons into loving corporate welfare while selling them the "freedom" schtick.

I think Annas off there.Giving parents vouchers to pick their kids school with a few public schools for the kids with disciplinary problems that want to disrupt others kids learning might be a good idea. Kind of like medicare for schools.Srs get what is similar to medicare vouchers and they pick the doctors and hospitals from those that accept them. For the most part it works well.Better than the public school system imo.

I dont know how ridculous they sound because I am not going to bother to watch your video until you have given a reasonable reason why I should. Put in a little more effort and give a better explanation of your argument rather than making us watch a video and try to determine what you are offended by.
