Sorry, I disagree. Again, he's stating the poor and middle class (who cannot afford the private school attendance without vouchers) shouldn't be allowed to have that opportunity. Only the rich, like himself.

This is not about funding, but opportunity.

I would think a champion of the poor such as yourself would understand this argument.

Hes saying don't take from the poor(public schools) to give to the rich(private schools).Unless he did that its not hypocritical.You can be rich and still support the poor.

Nothing wrong with giving opportunity but not at the expense of other poor children who will suffer from public schools being worse because funding was taken from them to give to private schools.Cooper didn't send his kids to private school at the expense of making public schools worse.

That's why we need more school choice- with vouchers- to promote more options.

Not every private school is or has to be some brick and ivy set-up.

If you want options on public tax payer money -- there are Charter Schools. Some of the top performing charter schools in the nation including Raleigh Charter are located in North Carolina.

There is no reason to be handing out vouchers to parents so they can send their children to private Christian religious schools -- which are the huge majority of private schools in North Carolina. And did I need to mention that these private Christian schools do not need to adhere to any type of state schooling standards -- they basically can teach the earth is flat, evolution does not exist, and all people of other religions are evil without any oversight. Nor do their teachers need to be credentialed (certified) or even have education degrees (or any degree at all).

It should encourage schools to compete for students - through better teachers (pay) and more efficient management and services. But to be clear, now we're arguing the merits of school choice, which I agree is more positional and subjective.

My intent was only to point out that a person who sent their kids to private school did/does not want the same opportunity for those who cannot afford it.

No but instead of using tax payer money to fund abandoning of public schools, just put the money into making hte public schools exceptional for the people who live in that area. Suddenly the right cares about the poor and getting handouts haha. Hand out tax payer money to move them to a fancy school but cut funding for welfare and foodstamps?

I dont get it.....School is already being offered for free..... if it is sub par then fix it. Wealthy always get access to better things they can afford..health care...food...education..GOP champions this cause by cutting social spending and using the bootstrap line.

Wealthy get better health care but does not bother the right to issue vouchers for health care...

He does not want to do it at the expense of making schools worse for the majority of students.

I'd agree with a voucher system for all making schools compete for the voucher and a few public schools for kids with disciplinary problems but if the main educational system is public schools money shouldn't be taken from the majority of kids to give to a few imo.

Health care is not the same as education... health care is completely private for the most part. The idea is if you are poor you have zero health care. If you are poor you still have free education. So the two are not the same.

Also there is no public school policy where teachers spend time discussing cutting off body parts of children so turn off Fox news....

if you are not happy with the public school you are free to pull them out which I am sure you did, but did you require the government to pay for it even though you had a free option? Poor people do not have a free option for health care or food or living..thus social welfare to help (yes the system aint perfect).

I have not heard any poor people complaning about trans issues being forced on them in public schools like Fox thinks, they complain about shitty resources and teachers.....can be fixed if both state parties put aside politics.
