Maher has a clever way of dancing around racism, these jokes based on racial stereotypes are actually funny, and it used to be acceptable "Russell Peters" is one of the funniest comedians ive ever heard and his entire shtick is all based on racial stereotypes, but russell peters is brown so he gets a pass,
The way Maher sets these jokes up is by saying "Heres what republicans would say" then he goes into a total racial stereotype he gets away with jokes that no other white comedian would get away with simply by saying "This is what the right thinks" The jokes are funny quite frankly but he woould have gotten chased off the air a long time ago if he didnt set them up the way he does. The implication is always "Heres what the racists think" right before he tees up a joke that anyone living in 2018 would consider racist.
