Fair enuf, what about the laws that already exist that supersede states rights, do we repeal those?
Yes.
Oh how I wish you were right! There are those of us, I am one, who is convinced the U.S, does not really have a two party system. We only elect one branch of government democratically and it doesn't seem to matter one wit whether we elect Democrats or Republicans. The country is firmly in control of the monied class (call then "Banksters"<sup>*</sup>, if you will.)
In the Ron Paul candidacy we have a perfect example of what happens to any candidate that is not acceptable to the "Banksters" that run the country -- for profit of course.

<sup>*</sup> I'm not sure about this, but I don't want to take credit for this term "Bankster" to describe those who really run the country. Possibly it was the cynic Gore Vidal. Anyway, sounds like something he would say.
Yes, but I think you are perhaps ignoring the fact that where do actually do have some control is at the local level. Even in our city councils. Nobody seems to care who sits on the city council or the county board or even on the PTA. Most of our lives are lived at the local level. And voting matters at the local level. Yet most people show no interest.
Yes, by all means vote, but who do we get to vote for? Well, let's see. We can vote for the dark complected guy who everybody pretty much agrees has been nothing short of a 3rd term for Bush. Maybe we should vote for the lighter complected guy who would be nothing short of a 4th term for Bush. No wait! We might cast a vote for Ricky or Newt who are both border line crazy, and are both D.C. Androids themselves. Probably not the best candidates to vote for. Then there's Ron Paul. Well, he's different that's for sure, but he has this pesky little problem of 535 people who have but one goal in life...re-election. I guess we could vote them out, but wait. They have the system rigged by district as to where it's nearly impossible to vote them out. Damn what do we do?
There's a reason only 35% vote and it ain't laziness. They've just seen the futility of it all. Tell ya' what Mav, I'll just write in your name for the hell of it. At least I can then say I voted for someone with whom I disagree with from time to time, but at least I don't want to see dead.
