Paul campaign: Keep it subtle

Here’s a curiosity that turned up on the Thursday schedule distributed Wednesday night by Ron Paul’s campaign. The good doctor will speak at 5 p.m. to students, faculty and staff at Bob Jones University.

The curious part would be this note on the schedule sent to reporters. Bold type added by Window on Washington for emphasis.

For Press: This is a significant event and needs to be billed as follows: “Dr. Ron Paul will be addressing members Bob Jones University students, faculty, and staff under the sponsorship of Dr. Brenda Ludwig of the Division of Nursing in Straton Hall, with overflow in Straton Hall II.” The press should be aware that no video cameras will be allowed in the hall but will be allowed to capture Ron and students coming in and exiting Straton Hall. It should also subtly be conveyed that Dr. Ron Paul will be the only Presidential Candidate to speak at Bob Jones University (although this fact does not translate into an endorsement in any way, shape, or form).

The point is that Paul caters to a certain crowd, certain groups, which runs counter to his philosophy of real Libertarianism...

He is meeting in secret manner shielded from the press on a presidential campaign at a so called institution of "higher learning." Why can't the press film during his speech? Why is he going to allow this to happen? Why doesn't he demand that the process be open to public scrutiny given his presidential run?

Paul claims to be a Libertarian, but when it comes to his own personal religious beliefs Libertarianism takes a back seat, and we have seen in Bush what happens when a president talks to God rather than adept political, economic, and scientific advisers.

Clinton Donor Tied To Mexican Drug Trade

An influential Democratic donor who has given Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign the federal limit and has been indicted for illegally practicing law, had his offices raided by authorities who say he launders money for Mexican drug cartels.

Renowned in ritzy Corpus Christi circles, Mauricio Celis has for years been one of Texas’ most generous Democratic donors, but the millionaire businessman has been the center of an ongoing criminal investigation that involves his deep-rooted ties to Mexico’s lucrative drug-smuggling industry.

In a pair of unrelated legal encounters, Celis was indicted by a Nueces County grand jury in October for the unauthorized practice of law, a felony in Texas. Celis is licensed to practice law in his native Mexico but does not possess a license in any U.S. state. He was also charged with impersonating a sheriff’s deputy to silence a woman he sexually assaulted.

State authorities say that Celis is linked to the Mexican drug trade and a search warrant to raid his lavish law office accuses him of money laundering for several cartels. Authorities have already searched a U.S. Treasury database and border crossing data to determine that Celis went to Mexico frequently after withdrawing huge sums of cash.

State prosecutors also obtained a document from a local bank showing a joint account belonging to Celis and a Mexican police officer well known for trafficking narcotics. It has been well documented that many police departments throughout Mexico are infested with corrupt officers and supervisors who openly accept bribes and help smuggle drugs north of the border.

Regardless of Celis’ shady business escapades, Democrats have gladly accepted his hefty donations through the years. In fact, Celis is among the party’s most generous donors and fundraisers, cutting hefty checks and raising more than $100,000 at a single event in early 2007.

There is nothing secret about the meeting nor is it shielded from the press. They said no video cams, not no press. Maybe they don't want their students being shown on the news to protect their privacy, who knows?

Anyway, Paul agrees to an event that blocks the video recording of it...

They can put the video camera only on Paul you goon...so your argument about protecting the rights of students from being on video is horseshit...

They do it all the time in courtrooms to protect the jury, etc., i.e. protecting some people from video...but can't do it at Bob Jones University? What a crock.

I think the real fear is the video ends up on Youtube, you know that place where people who can't read go to pick their presidential candidates...

The fear is that Paul will reveal his right wing fanatical Christian side too much on video, and they don't want that to show up on Youtube...

Zzzz's point has something to do with his white guilt, but mostly its just another worthless illiberal taking a cheap shot at an easy target. He can't comment on any democrat pandering to illegal aliens, or american muslims, so he lashes out at the only thing he can - Christians, as somehow they are supposed to be racist and since the university and its students all believe in creation, Zzz is mentally superior as well.
