Ron Paul says healthcare not a right

Quote from 151:

You are damn right I would suggest people that want health insurance pay for it first before they go off and buy beer and cigarettes and then beg for tax funded insurance because they think they cant afford it themselves.

And if people do not want health insurance they live with the consequences.

Do you really think giving up beer and cigarettes would enable a person to be able to afford insurance? That would have to be a hell of alot of beer and cigarettes.

Why wouldn't you want a world where people can afford beer, cigarettes, AND healthcare?

Yes, but thunderdogs post, to which I was replying, was in response to angrycat. I thought his post was funny and I was simply continuing the banter.

I wish I hadn't bothered now.
Yes, Lucrum has that effect on people. Perhaps if he keeps it up I will finally be free of ET's shackles.

Please do not get me wrong. I would be happier if people could afford everything they want and health coverage.

But the fact is too many people say they cannot afford health coverage when they are spending money on beer and cigarettes.

Lets assume a pack a day= I dont know 6 bucks?
plus two six packs a week =again I dont know maybe 12 bucks?

thats about 275 a month.

you should travel more, particularly with in the industrialized/G20 world... it's not even much of a debate...

I used to live in Western Europe. There's no debate - they're all very ethnocentric and America bashing over there. The Italians are living in their own filth and the French die by the thousands in a heat wave because they don't have A/C, but it's America that sucks.

If this health care BS passes as is, they will definitely have better health care. In France, you can buy unregulated health insurance in addition to the state health care service. That won't be option here.

Quote from Thunderdog:

And I suspect that health insurance providers regard you in much the same way. As an aside, I can only imagine the amount of glue you must have gone through during your adolescence.

I suspect you regard your penis and sexual prowess as adequate and I suspect your boyfriends do not.

You're out of your league, pumpkin. You offer nothing of any value and that must be terribly upsetting to you. Run along.

Quote from Kassz007:

So you would suggest that people unable to pay for private insurance give up TV, give up cell phones, give up internet, give up fast food, give up beer, and give up nice clothing just so they can afford healthcare?! Who wants to live like that?!

In Canada, I have all those things PLUS I receive good healthcare, and I am by no means a rich man. My point is, you can have the best of both worlds under a new healthcare system.

Kazz,

You, by your own admission, have never been seriously ill. You have no clue what kind of healthcare you have.

Also, giving up beer, smokes, fast food and a 52 inch plasma seems a small price to pay for life saving treatment. Dontcha think? I mean if your life wouldn't be worth living without any of that, then you really have to question how empty your life is.

Besides, you're Canadian, so what you think of America's health care arrangements doesn't matter. You don't get a vote.

Quote from Mom0/pH0x:

they don't have A/C in much of SO CAL and it's alot hotter than anywhere in france... and from my experience in france, they are more enamored with the usa/hollywood et al than USA bashers...

life expectancy is greater in france than in the USA as well...

Yeah, but you don't die by the thousands during a heat wave.

Actually, they hate the Germans more. In Europe, the mutual hatred is pretty amusing.

Live expectancy is such a canard. Normally, I just state the obvious: life expectancy is greater because the French aren't fat pigs (12% obesity rate) while the Americans are (30+% obesity rate). But, just for you, I'll go further: the difference is not statistically significant AND when you compare the U.S. population of European extraction, the life expectancy is exactly the same a France's (and most of Western Europe). Genetic predisposition to certain life-shortening illnesses have a big effect on life expectancy, so you have to also cut the data by race. Hispanics and blacks unfortunately have a higher predisposition toward life shortening illnesses like diabetes and heart disease.

The projection is palpable, sniffy.

No, I'm a woman, Thunderpoo. I'm meant to have boyfriends and guys like you always over-estimate themselves.

But, I apologize. I shouldn't have stooped all the way down to your level and made that totally irrelevant comment after pointing out that you never add anything useful to the discussion.
