you consider it extreme because it deviates from what is now. Limited Federal government, freedom and adherence to the Constitution are what this country was founded on. It isn't that way now so people think a man who promotes this is extreme.
No, I consider it extreme because that is not the way government works in a country as large and diverse as ours is. Our country looks nothing like it did over 200 years ago, in size, scope, wealth, problems, diversity, etc.
We are so far away from the platform we are founded on, that if today, this country was 50 separate states, there is no way we could possible form a union the way we have now. There might be unions of some states, but I see no way we could have what we have now starting from scratch.
There is so little spirit of compromise these days, such polarization, that someone to either extreme just isn't going to get much done.
Holding this country together is a real problem right now, and I don't see Paul or his cult like followers being the answer.
Let's start with a moderate centrist first, let's get people in congress who are reasonable.
Paul's value is to put some issues out there, but he is not electable, nor do I think he could govern effectively.

Today, the founders if alive, and had the size and scope of 50 different colonies, from Hawaii to Maine, from So Cal to Florida and Alaska, could not hammer out an agreement that could be acceptable to all states.
Hell, they had a lot of fights with just 13 colonies to ratify a constitution.
We are a nation living on the fumes of the history of the founders, and I am not knocking their principles, far from it.
However, principles of governing have to fit the governed and their level of expectations, and we simply do not have a sufficient spirit of cooperation and willingness to compromise at this point to suddenly try to apply 200+ year old principles...which by the way, are just words now, in a language that has changed, and we have no way of knowing what side of the fence a Jefferson of today, or Franklin of today, etc. would land on.
America is like that fading beauty queen, who has to understand that she can no longer live in the past where she got by on her looks alone...and many again beauty queens remain in denial about the reality of their life until the bitter end.

People in this country, learned people, constitutional scholars argue all the time about what the intention of the framers was...so anyone saying they represent 100% of the true intent of the framers reminds me of some born again Christian who says they have the true 100% correct understanding of the Bible, and they represent Christ 100% of Christ's intent. Or Muslims saying they represent 100% of Mohammed's intent, etc. really doesn't matter, fanaticism is fanaticism.
