Romney Comes Up Flat In First Debate

Quote from RCG Trader:

I told her the incumbent almost always struggles in the first debate. Mitt the Moderate will be debunked here shortly and Obama will drive the spike in the third debate.

which is a flip flop from...

Quote from RCG Trader:

That seems to be most other people's view as well. Obama is going beat up Mittens, but since he is the favorite, it will not have as much sting.

Now, if Biden can take down Ryan, that could be fun! Ryan I would have to say is the favorite in that contest.

Lehrer was really something. The biggest issue facing us is the looming fiscal cliff, and he wants them to discuss the "role of government in the economy."

Obama himself raised the complaint that Romney said he would turn down 10 billion in spending cuts if it required 1 bill in additional taxes. Romney answered it pretty effectively, but he should have turned it around on Obama and asked him if he would turn down 10 bill in cuts if there were no new taxes. Obviously that is obama's position.

Obama would have to justify his position by saying in effect, it is more important to tax the rich than help the economy. He has said the same thing before regarding cap gains, that "fairness" is more important than actual revenues.

Not sure I agree, my friend. A few more solid debates like this and he's in.

Think about it. Who is going to change their mind if he solidly "undresses" Obama like you suggest?

The people who want to see blood already despise Obama. The independents on the sideline have stated repeatedly in polls that they do not want disrespect, just solid points made. Romney did just that. If he gets aggressive, he risks alienating them on that. Anyone who is still undecided at this point can be swayed, obviously. But most of the country is decided and there is little that will sway the vast majority of them. To the Obama haters, you could put an aardvark (someone said this - apologies I cannot remember who) on stage and they'll vote in the aardvark. To the Obama lovers, Obama can do no wrong. Obama could get up there and say "You know what? I'll admit it, I was born in Kenya, a student of Marx and the chosen one to destroy the country" and these folks would still support him.

Two mass extremes like that don't swing no matter what. There is a few percentage points out there of people, and that is the cautious go get.

I've talked to a few people who either "lean Romney" or "lean Obama" and they agree with you.

Quote from CaptainObvious:

Triple A, I think you're getting yourself all tied up in the details. Think of it as a football game. The new QB comes out to throw his first pass of the season. Big pass rush comes. Everyone kind of expects the kid to throw and interception, but he hangs tough in the pocket and ends up throwing a nice tight spiral, hitting his receiver in stride. No TD, just a nice 30 yard gain. Big sigh of relief from the fans and the game is on. That's what people see, and that's all they care about. You're too deep in the game talking about linebackers out of postion and the missed assignment of the cornerback. Still plenty of field left in front of us, but the kid did prove he can hit the assigned target. Right now today that's all that matters.

You may well be right, but I saw it as Romney getting mired in details and not making the key points. The media are telling people the economy is getting better, unemployment is down, home prices are up, GM is a big success, etc.

He did make the point that obama has been president for four years, so we have some proof of how his policies work.

I'm not surprised. We saw this in the primaries in focus groups. People said "stop insulting each other and trying to be witty. Show us what you are going to do to fix what is broken."

Going for the throat is too risky with too little return.

It's better to think of this as a professional wrestling match not football. It's about who puts on the better show not who scores the most points.

Here I am a new resident to FL, a state that will decide it along with OH. All I can say is I was so happy with last night's knockout, I could barely sleep with the smile I was wearing! I CANNOT wait to vote for Romney here in this all too important-to-win State.

Quote from RCG Trader:

I just told this same kind analogy to a friend of mine, except I used the 10000 meter run. We will see what is going when the bell lap is rung...(debate#3)

She is in panic mode, for some reason. I told her the incumbent almost always struggles in the first debate. Mitt the Moderate will be debunked here shortly and Obama will drive the spike in the third debate.

please, everyone knows that the 1st debate is the most important.. obama got devastated, embarrassed, shit on, etc last night. he looked like a young child challenging his parent and got put in his place. I KNOW obama will come back better but his record is indefensible, he made some very cocky predictions (like some of yours) before and immediately after his election, now they are biting his ass. If Mitt stays aggressive he will take the foreign policy debate with ease considering this latest fuck up by the admin. Obama can't win the debates now without a major Romney mistake.. judging by last night, it isn't coming.

The race is back on, Romney CAN win.

Hell, I should fly back there and vote with you. I'm sure if I wear an Obama T-shirt that they will let me vote in Brevard county without question.
