Rolled Back to the Old ET

Quote from Tsing Tao:

I liked the new format. Not surprising that many did not, though. Change is tough for lots of folks to adapt to.

But if this has been the toughest time of your life, Baron, getting a message forum to function correctly, then let me be the first to point out that you have lived an extremely sheltered life.

I'm not one to change things just for the sake of change. But assuming the bugs would eventually get worked out I was OK with the new format too.

Thanks for bringing back the old format. When I saw the old format back it was an old friend from the past.

I also thought the avatars were juvenile also the different colored smileys looked cartoonish.

I looked around some other sites I liked to see if your change was similiar, I did find one site that I think is what you were trying to do. It's a building forum. Here's a link.

This building site feels comfortable. Maybe it's more compact. Yours seemed a little spacious and spread out.

At any rate..do we still get our tropy points? I was hoping for a trophy catalogs to see what we could spend them on. Btw, I had maybe 5 likes on the new board. Aw peshaw, didn't know anyone cared... :D

The issue with building site is too much advertisement, it makes reading content more difficult. This is the issue with many other trading sites as well.

I agree with some of the previous posts that the old format is much easier to read.

Brother Close, why is the old version easier to read?
I had no trouble at all reading the new version.

aaa even analyzes et well.

one point I wish to reiterate because I think many would agree.

I was not going to come back as often and click on each forum.
I have too many other things to monitor during the day.

Thank you Baron. It takes a real leader to admit a mistake. You have guided this site with great insight and judgment for 15 years or so, maybe more. I first started on the site when you were selling Colographic video cards here. In all that time, this is the only misstep I can recall. Like a good trader, you quickly cut your one bad trade short.

I've been away and missed much of the debate on the new site, but let me echo what some of the other oldtimers said. ET has always had the most brilliantly useable interface of any message board. It was (is) a model of how a site should look and feel. Sadly, the new version fell short. Personally, I felt the avatars looked juvernile and detracted from the professional look of the site. There was way too much other stuff going on as well. Leave that crap to Facebook, et al. Keep ET lean and mean.

A crucial feature of ET is the ability to scan recent threads under each forum from the forum page. Many of us like to do a quick scan of what's happening on the site from that page. We are just not going to take the time to click on each forum heading if the recent threads are not visible.

For now at least, life can return to normal.

bring back the new alert feature if possible, other than that, Happy Days Are Here Again.

Given that the alerts did not reset even after the new posts had been accessed from email alerts, I find it hard to share your enthusiasm for this tedious feature.
