A USA Today article today spells out why it doesn't matter that Incognito was considered an "honorary black man" among the Dolphin players. The author explains to us that the Dolphin players have no knowledge of the civil rights era and just what the racial epithets really mean and why they are so harmful. They don't understand that we must respect the historical standards of the civil rights movement.

Doesn't the author realize that we have a living <s>constitution</s> civil rights agenda and things are different now?
 
This is an interesting story. Martin's parents are both Harvard-educated lawyers. He went to Stanford. Incognito got kicked off the Nebraska team, which as one GM observed is not easy to accomplish.

I see this playing out with the coach getting fired, Martin traded and Incognito getting a long suspension.

What we have heard about the Dolphins' locker room culture is disturbing. I don't discount the fact that Martin was playing poorly and is smart enough to know how to exploit this situation. The phone message sounds horrible, but these are football players and it could have been understood as typical bluster. Who knows?

The league should issue an immediate mandate that no more hazing will be tolerated. The idea the vets were using rookies as ATM machines is just wrong and raises potential criminal issues of extortion.

Yes, that part about the rookies having their money used at the pleasure of the vets is pathetic.

What interests me is how the same people who think the constitution is a living document and needs to just flow with the times are now telling us that the civil rights agenda as the founders of it intended must stay intact and new definitions of who is a black man and what is acceptable to say are out of bounds. They're not so open to it being a living agenda.
 
dudes, i bet you could count the number of players who care about this shit on one hand. incognito might be an asshole but this is just another case of the pc police gone wild. these are grown men who have probably been acting like this since high school. We got hazed in hs, my roomates played 1aa ball in college, they got hazed.. in some really ridiculous ways haha. even i did just for being their roomate.

NFL players don't live in the media sensationalized world of pc mania. There are former players saying they think martin was just trying to get out of playing. again, incognito might be extreme and it seems like most players don't like him, but they are talking about court and banning him from the league.. for hazing. LOL that's pitiful.
 
Well, hazing is a loose concept. Making a rookie carry the vets' pads in after practice is hazing. Wrapping a rook up in tape on the goal post, once, is hazing. Forcing a guy to pay for your trip to Vegas sounds a little more like extortion. Forcing rookies to spend $30k at a strip club for vets to me goes way beyond hazing and sounds like extortion.

Apparently, Coach Mike Tomlin of the Steelers, no pussy, does not allow it. Period. Belichick put a stop to it on the Pats when it began to get out of hand.

I can safely say that Incognito and the Dolphins are not getting out of this without paying some serious money to Martin and maybe the other rookies who were abused. This is not some guy from the 'hood. Martin's parents are both lawyers. They are going to put the Dolphins through the meat grinder.

Payback can be a bitch sometimes.
 
I call it plain stupid giving up your money.

I mean these guys are supposed to be tough, sheesh. Going out on that field isn't easy. How does an educated grown tough mofo just give up his funds like that. This just doesn't seem like extortion to me. Like they say sunday pregame...C'MON MAN

I'm not saying that incognito is right either, but sheesh... C'MON MAN

i gotta disagree and i really hope you're wrong AAA. This is a grown man (a big badass man) that we're talking about. yeah hazing is a subjective term and everyone has a different limit of what they are willing to take, but if he was really upset he should have told incognito to fuck off and got in his face, it wouldn't have cost him a dollar. He should get absolutely nothing out of this, what a baby. I suspect that in some players minds, they would rather play with incognito than martin.

Another thing, these guys get paid a ton of money to play a game and they aren't forcing him to strip clubs etc.. i see it as hazing when you get paid like that, to 'make' the newb pick up the tab. This whole thing is hilarious to me, the media is acting like martin is a 50lb 6 yo girl, and incognito is some kind of mob enforcer "making her an offer she can't refuse". :D
