Revisiting Acrary

If I say dbphoenix is better than AC or JH, do you believe that?

The reason why someone on ET would provide guidance to other aspiring traders is the same reason why successful entrepreneurs provide guidance to others, why successful athletes provide guidance to others, why successful humans provide guidance to the new generation.

You show me examples of competition, I will show you examples of generosity.

But then the inevitable issue of 'verifiable' credibility comes up. If we can't judge context on a message board, what business do we have judging context in a market? Either way, it's a bet, both with it's cost and associated payoff.

ACrary vs JackH

AC talked about his new development; JH explained about his old development.

Both were trying to fish potentially useful feedback from ETers, in order to improve their individual developments.

...

possible reason.

Agree. Acrary added a lot of value here and much more than most. A person has to decide whether to believe what was written or not. His posts ring true to me and I decided to believe they came from a knowledgeable person who decided to teach a little bit or a lot.

+1

if folks think acrary was a fraud based on his writings on this board, I can only say that reading comprehension ability of those folks is pretty bad or those folks have huge ego and find it extremely difficult to appreciate anyone's else contribution other than their own!

I am just curious:
Has anyone (or CTA/ CPO/ fund manager) done any back-testing or actual-trading performance results to show us according to the following approach/ theory that would probably require to find not only one single edge in trend trading but also additional edges in counter-trend and range-bound trading? If not, then why not?

Measuring whether the market is trending or counter-trend sounds nice in theory, in practice you'd usually be lagging the market behavior and end up using trending strategies when the market is in counter-trend mode and vice versa.
The market switches between trending and counter-trend continuously.

Obviously we're never going to know the truth regarding Acrary, he wrote some good stuff, though hardly groundbreaking (non-correlation of systems, confidence intervals). He also wrote some fairly meaningless stuff, which people have been attempting to pick apart for meanings ever since. He also contradicted himself quite a bit, though, this is not an unusual thing on this site, however, given the drivel that passes for discourse on this site now, his posts seem like the good old days.

I found this to be groundbreaking, especially since it came from experience rather than theory.

In short, at 50 I feel like an old fool. Squandering my time trying to figure out the optimal way to fish in a pond when all I had to do was turn my back and throw out my line into a ocean full of opportunities. Maybe some 20 something will learn something from this and not waste his life like I have with the false perceptions I bought into. Our perceptions are indeed our reality.

Perhaps I do have some confirmation bias, but when you read interviews/books about the very best in this game, it appears that a large proportion of them operate from a framework of stunning simplicity. They don't talk a lot about edge either. They talk about principles and the need to align oneself with these principles.
