Republicans plan to push back against net neutrality in 2015

Republicans in Congress say they plan to oppose any efforts by the Federal Communications Commission to install net-neutrality rules that demand internet service providers treat all online traffic equally.

This is one area where Republicans are very wrong and it's going to come back & bite them in the ass.

I will be greatly amused when the Republicans discover that Internet providers will charge their campaign websites tens of thousands of dollar per day to not be in the "slow lane" when the owner of the Internet company does not like Republicans.

I don't really understand it. People that do explain that we need a law to keep things as they are now, which almost everybody is happy with. Sounds eerily like the liberal fear that if we don't do something quick, corporations will take over the world. My reply is, if corporations screw up the internet, I just won't use it anymore, and we will come up with something better.

Actually we need a law so Republicans do not change how things are now (i.e. the Internet operates on the principle of "Network Neutrality" from day one). The clowns in Congress want to change the Internet so that any website that does not pay a fee to be on the "fast lane" will effectively be delivered at 300 baud modem rate. Would you go to ET if each webpage took 3 minutes to load because Baron refused to may the "green mail" to allow fast internet loading speeds?

The reason phone companies, utilities, and other companies are regulated is because corporations really did screw up their services and charged outlandish sums for basic services. There is really no other option when "corporations screw up the internet" - similar to the situation with utilities. If Comcast is green mailing service provides then AT&T will be doing the same thing --- and your access to ET, or Google, or YouTube, or FaceBook, or Netflix will be slow no matter who your provider is (assuming they don't pay the greenmail).

hmmm, well, you know a lot more about it than me. I know I will pay just about anything the corporation can get away with charging for heat, electricity and water. After that it is all just a luxury. Not sure I would call the internet a "necessity." I pay Verizon for internet access, not sure I want the government getting between me and my provider, they already tried that between me and my doctor. But like I said, I haven't thought it through and am always open to a more knowledgeable opinion.

I agree, this is one an issue where republicans are out to lunch.

John Oliver did a great piece on Net Neutrality, he is one of the funniest guys on T.V. now in my opinion, even though he leans liberal, hes alot closer to center than Jon Stewart of Colbert was.

Many of us may disagree with reps on this one, but most of us probably understand why they're taking the position they are. When it comes to the internet we're all "socialists". ; )

Obama is in cahoots with these guys too, so its not just the republicans. Finally something republicans agree with obama on, was there any doubt it would be complete bullshit, and it would screw the little guy. :D

So much for Obama "the socialist", just another rep lie.
