The sequester, along with an improved, but under performing economy, had a significant effect on the reduction of the deficit. The Republicans were the ones pushing for lower spending, not the Democrats. Remember the Tea Party? Remember the shut down? That dispute was over lowering spending.
Now, both parties have suspended the sequester. The increased spending and tax cuts are increasing the deficit, despite a good economy.

That notion is sooooo naive and stupid, it doesn't deserve a response.
Despite Trumps budget to increase defense spending, he's inherited Obama's "structural deficit"....the worst possible kind (if you care about fiscal responsibility and America's future, that is).

Trump inherited Obamas 600 billion dollar deficit and has increased it to 1.1 trillion in 2 years moron.
In a lot of ways yes but you’re not telling the whole story. Democrats pushed for 1:1 cuts on the military side. Now that the sequester is lifted, and yes some Dems went along but this was by and large a Republican thing, the spending is unrestrained under Trump.
Couple this with a massive unpaid for tax cut and presto change-o, we have a growing deficit in an expanding economy.
There is no reason we should not see a diminishing deficit under trump, except for his poor management.

Democrats know only one thing. Spend other people's monies and they are the responsible ones to reduce our deficits? President Donald Trump has a better grasp of the economy and if given the chance will reduce our deficits! How to do it? First, is get fair trade deals. What do you think the tariffs on China are for? If other countries buy more US goods, we would have a more even trade balance reducing further increases in the deficit. Add to that cutting government waste and you will further reduce the deficits. Spending must be tied to what the government earns from taxes. It will take decades to unwind that $18 trillion deficit. Anyone claiming they can wipe out the deficits overnight is lying!

I agree with you, especially when the Republicans had majorities in the house and senate. Now both parties have some responsibility. Trump has the ultimate power of the veto. Although it is not the ideal solution, the sequester should be reinstated, since both parties refuse to control spending. If they could agree on spending priorities, then the sequester would not be necessary. If memory serves me, the sequester spending levels will kick in automatically if there is not a budget agreement for fiscal year 2020. I also think we need to adjust the structure and reduce the levels of some of the tax cuts.
