Republicans love hallowing Ronald Reagan’s name. Too bad they know so little about the guy.

Last week in Hawaii, the Republican National Committee almost passed a resolution named after the Gipper. “Whereas President Ronald Reagan believed that the Republican Party should support and espouse conservative principles and public policies,” it declared, only candidates who complied with eight of 10 “Reaganite” principles would be eligible for party funds.

There's no reason for Republicans to hold Reagan up as a deity. He was a bad president - and under his stewardship, some of the worst laws got passed (mostly involving taxes and constitutional rights)

What he had going for him was the ability to look good and flawlessly deliver the speeches his handlers prepared for him.
 
The fool Carter brought us Reagan, just as the fool Bush brought us Obama. Both Reagan and Obama are messiah like to their respective parties, and neither deserve the status they're given.
For the record, and as I've stated here before, Reagan was a bum. He set the stage to destroy the working class. Gave a nice speech though, just like Obama.
 
Reagan was the greatest president of our generation. You had to live through the Carter horror to appreciate the change Reagan brought. I find it ironic that people who have known only great propserity in their lives due to the economic revival he created now belittle his accomplishments.

Nitpicking about this mistake or that bad decision he made is like rafting through the Grand Canyon and complaining about seeing some deer poop.

"Known only great prosperity", really? Guess it depends on who you ask. Corporate exec's would surey agree, but the working class hasn't seen it. Reagan set the stage for NAFTA which has destroyed American manufacturing. Wages for blue collar workers have remained flat for 3 decades, flat at best. Millions upon millions of blue collar workers have found themselves with nowhere to go in an economy which allows the few to climb the ladder, pull it up after them and keep it all at the top. Re-training and education are but a cruel joke, as more often than not they lead to a life of under employment for workers in their 40's, 50's and 60's.
Trickle down? Where? When? The big boys keep it all for themsleves. The disparity between exec pay and labor has become so disporportionate it borders on criminal behavior.
No doubt, the chosen few find Reagan a lovely guy, and why not? He gave them a clear path to wealth beyond their wildest dreams, and insured that any losses would be socialized. Nice gig if you can get it.

Thank you Mr. Reagan...rot in hell you piece of shit.
