sorry, when you take the oath of emt or police or fire, you take the oath to serve. his excuse was flimsy (according to the article, which is all i have to go on) and he should be removed from serving since he cannot be counted on.

i respect his rights to whatever personal feelings he has or wants, but they have no place in a fire department.
