republican budget director. we need major tax increases not decreases

Quote from Gabfly1:

While common sense is a good thing, it is not always accurate or complete. For example, your argument may have more traction at one level of income than at another. Specifically, I refer to income/spending elasticty patterns. Interesting how you only require research for those conclusions you don't intuitively support. I trust your trading is more pragmatic.

decisions made in life are often a result of life's experience. my logic and common sense have saved me from making horrible decisions in life where others clearly did not pay attention. thus, i am 100% confident in my ability to make decisions when put against logic and common sense, even if you are not. in fact, i would argue that your condemnation of the way i go through life is further support for how i do things - given the viewpoints you support and the comments you make.

in other words, if >you< think it's bad, then i know i'm in the right and feel better about it.

as for trading, that is not something you can apply logic to. just like you cannot apply logic to, say, poker or blackjack.

i must issue a correction on my commentary in the first page of this thread. my original post went ballistic as reports in the media came out regarding how an additional 13 months of benefits was to be made available to those with benefits about to expire. from what i am reading now, this is not the case. the bill is still a sham and a horrible waste of spending, but in a different manner.

for full details of the unemployment part of the bill can be found in this well-known blog:

Fine. Look around and take in all your brethren on your side of the aisle: bugscoe, Scataphungus, peilthetraveler, AMT4SWA, bearice, Lucrum, pspr, Petsamo...the list of bad haircuts goes on. I can only imagine your pride of membership.

my side of the isle. how quickly you have forgotten where i told you i stand on a number of issues. while many you have mentioned are to the right of me on social issues (some to the way right), fiscally, our goal is the same - a responsible budget that isn't spending the money of our children and pushing the country further into debt. you and your "brethren", however, hold such extreme views to the far left that i find myself relieved to know you have no real voice in the future of our (America's) society. my father used to tell me that you could tell someone on the far left by the fact that they never think they are far left, while someone on the far right will openly (and proudly) admit they are far right. whether he was right or not, it certainly proves to be true more than not.

to sum up, i would gladly stand with most of the folks you mention up there any day of the week and twice on sunday than spend an hour on the same side as folks as radical as you. while you and i may agree on some topics, your overall view is inherently dangerous to the spirit on which this republic was founded.

and that's the spirit i hope to preserve.

Well done!

I very much agree with you about the danger, just not the direction it's coming from.

Perhaps your father was too far right to adequately gauge depth perception, such that anything left of him was far left. Also, I think maybe he forgot to tell you that the pride was misplaced.

this is about what i would expect to hear from someone on the far left spectrum.

Excuse me, but did your dad not tell you that members of the self-described far right, thereby political extremists by definition ("far"), were proud of their extremism? Sure, TT, there's nothing quite as stabilizing as prideful extremism. No "inherent danger" there, eh?
