Oh I see.....Murtha degrades and convicts our armed servicemen in the court of public opinion because he really cares about them and is trying to save them all.

Yeah, I'm sure the guys on the ground REALLY appreciate Murtha condemning their comrades-in-arms without a trial and giving the animals they're fighting another example of condemnation by an American politician to fuel their zeal...

Murtha's just your average politico opportunist who would rather score points in the media and take potshots at Bush than actually let the judicial process play out.

The morale problems are based in being put in impossible situations, not in the media or Murtha's point of view of what is happening.

The focus on Murtha or the press is a canard...

Anyone who thinks that if the US was 100% behind the effort from all citizens, that the press was 100% jingoistic, that the outcome would be different is not too bright.

Just look at Afghanistan...

There was greater solidarity from the US citizens and press in going to Afghanistan than we have seen since WWII...and that mission failed, failed to get Bin Laden, and the fighting continues in Afghanistan, with the problems there unresolved.

To think that the Iraqi people are resisting, and killing each other because of the US press or Murtha is just silly...

Afghanistan does not support your theory. The Taliban no longer rules and cannot provide haven for Al Qaeda. They're in hiding. Osama has to send out videos from some cave in the mountains, and he hardly does at that.

Only a senile idiot would expect Afghanistan to look like the 51st state at this point in time. Bush certainly never promised that.

You have no basis for your hypothesis.

Captured intelligence indicates that the insurgents view the discord in the US as proof that they don't have to win a tactical battle, just outlast us. Bin Laden has referred to the discord in the US before in his communiques, specifically one addressed to the US people.
