Relocating to a new country to trade. Where do I go?

By staying in an EU time zone you'll have the best opportunity to observe the US markets.

Cyprus/Malta/Canary Islands - According to your posts the only downside I see for these places is that the supposed problem preventing you from profitability - your friend's and family - will want to visit you defeating your purpose of leaving home.

just my opinion. you should do what you decide to do. not what I would do. You are adult enough to make your own decision. In fact I know you are going to make your own decision and flip us all off. end of discussion. there are more discussions on ET that require my sanity. hahahaha.

It's just an option I'm considering and hardly a very controversial one. At least from my perspective. If trading goes well, I might very well consider settling down semi-permanently abroad, yes. I've lived in the same city for 10 years now and feel it's time for a change.

8 hours per day is not sufficient for me at this point. I'd like to be completely on my own. Work when I want. Leisure when I want. In Scandinavia it's also a problem that I work when other people are off since I'm focused on American markets (and no, switching markets is not an option at the moment).

There's been so many weekends now where I've wanted to do double all-nighters and just code, build templates and test ideas, but have to turn off the computer at 8 to spend a few hours with friends or my girlfriend.
Those pesky friends and girlfriends interfering with the really important things in life like money and code. I sincerely wish you the ability to find perspective in life my friend, that is far more important than what you think you're seeking.

Phuket Thailand is the place to go

Those are actually good suggestions also. I've been to both Cyprus and all of the Canary Islands. From a cost perspective I think these places are also pretty good. It might be a little bit too hot, though. I find it easier to focus and stay indoors when the climate is cooler. But with summer approaching by the time I'm leaving - that will probably be an issue everywhere I go.

I wouldn't mind a visit from friends and family. :)

You guys read way too much into my private life and situation. Does a 3 month leave by default mean that I'm giving up on my family, friends and girlfriend?

I've done a lot for my family and friends already. Some of my family members are not in a very good financial situation. If I should succeed with this - I will help them financially also.

3 months is nothing in the grand scheme of things, but to me as a trader and developer/entrepreneur it can make a huge impact.

Every great life has had a great renunciation and in order to lead a balanced life, one might have to endure a longer period of imbalance.

Thanks for the contributions, good people.

I could not edit the 1st post, but for me, tax is of no concern at this point in time. I will pay tax to my native country as I'll be living on a tourist visum.

Sadly, cost of living is still a concern and in this phase of my trading career, it would be beneficial to keep it as low as possible. I live in Scandinavia, so I imagine there's many countries or cities that should be at least a bit cheaper than where I currently reside.

Check out Chiang Mai, Thailand. Very good bang for your buck - can get a new 1 bedroom condo for USD600/month. Internet fast and cheap. Food plentiful and cheap. Lots of expat digital nomad types there.

Only downside for you would be time zone, but you could use that to your advantage. Sounds like you want go monk mode and be immersed in the markets. Work at night with no distractions and total focus, sleep in then chill out during the day.

You still die alone. Friends, or money don’t come with you. Not sure why, or how the former can be anymore important than the latter. The concept of “meaning” is the greatest fallacy. You exist, then you don’t.

Countless Studies have been done on people at deaths door and virtually in every case their regret and triumphs lie in their relationships. Very few people will focus on something other than that. I bet GHWB’s last moments focused on his wife and family vs his incredible career.
