Religious people are more tolerant, open-minded than atheists, new study reveals

A new study has upended long-held assumptions that religious people are more closed-minded and intolerant than atheists.

The study, conducted by Dr. Filip Uzarevic, a researcher at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium, revealed that while atheists might consider themselves open-minded than religious folk, they are actually less tolerant of differing opinions.

It doesn't surprise me.
While I'm a fervent antitheist, I have many devout friends and they are much better people than my lot.

Just wondering if he later changed to do same research in a much more open-minded non-religious university, whether the same conclusion would be reached.

Article doesn't mention methodology. You have to pay to see the study. So who knows how his sample was derived or how his surveys or tests were Conducted.

First at all, it's "New" study. Other people or researchers in the past were unable to get a correct truth by their outdated skills and knowledge.

Probably the open-minded researchers would expect an open-minded reader would/should accept their announced statement (i.e. conclusion) without asking any questions like yours.

That sounds like another institution prevalent in the world :)

Not sure why the OP considers this news, the chances that a preset bias doesn't exist with this study is small, and the author has a non-scientific background. Hard not to be cynical about such "studies" in this era of fake news and propaganda.

It is not actually "news" --- it is a subject that interests people in this forum and I posted it to open a debate on the matter with perspectives from people who regularly contribute.

Odds are the study focuses on religious types outside the US. The christians in the US would destroy the validity of the study as they are the most ignorant pieces of shit you'll ever meet.

Well that is very insulting considering that the majority of the population in the U.S. belongs to one or another Christian denomination. I will have to generally agree that most of the people I meet who attend religious services regularly tend to be more open minded as a group than the proclaimed atheists I know. Most of the atheists I encounter despise anyone who follows organized religion. Your rant above is probably an excellent confirmation that the findings in the study are correct.

After reading the article, yeah the study was done outside the US. There is no need to sample the americans, just turn on FOXNews. Christians inside and outside the US are vastly different (ie how they view war, how they view Obama,etc.).
