Regulation madness: Philly ‘soda tax’ causes massive job losses, Democrat finger-pointing

Where do you get that bread from? Ive tried looking for bread thats not horrible, and can never find anything with that few of calories and carbs, other than those loaves of nut bread that look decent, but really are just half the size of normal bread.

Max, I agree that sugar finds itself everywhere these days, and in more quantity than it did in the past, except for those products that specifically market to people looking to cut down on sugar. But soft drinks are the biggest culprit because all of their calories are derived from added sugar. Consider the photos in this link:

As for bread, yes, a lot of them do have added sugar -- even the ones that claim to be healthy alternatives. Sugar adds flavor and acts as a preservative. I don't think regular bread has anywhere near the added sugar of soft drinks, and some of it may be naturally occurring. I'm not defending sugar as an additive to bread, but I don't think it can be readily compared to what is found in pop. And although bread's reputation is being sullied these days (carbs!), it at least provided some satiety, which soda pop does comparatively negligibly. I do agree with you that sugar is somewhat stealthier in bread, and a lot of people are not aware of the added sugar they may be consuming in their ill-chosen loaves. But remember that not all breads are considered equal. Consider my bread of choice. Check the ingredients and nutritional profile:

Regarding artificially sweetened soda, I don't like them either, but I think the cancer scares are overblown and not backed by good science:

The problem with diet soda is that it keeps you desensitized to sweet stuff. I think a person would be best served by weaning himself off of over-the-top sweet flavors. Appreciate the subtler taste of the underlying food. Just my opinion. It's what I did, and now I find soft drinks, cakes and the like cloyingly sweet.

When I quit drinking beer sugar became the most important food in my diet. And I'm hypoglycemic. Before, even a potato had too much sugar for me and would almost send me into a coma. Now, I live sometimes for 48 hours on nothing but candy bars. The secret is a constant supply. At anyrate, You are not paying my medical bills and I don't have any and never had any so it's none of yours or the governments business. If I wouldn't trust the government with my healthcare, why would I trust them to choose my diet? If they tax sugar what do I get in return?

It's produced in the US but I buy it in Canada at any stores related to Loblaw (Maxi, Provigo). Since it has no preservatives it's sold in the health food freezer section. Bought 4 loaves today. Price is now $7.50 a pop (CDN).

So do you want a reduction in the higher taxes on tobacco products?
Taxation is not the prime driver in the reduction of cigarette smoking. Education and just plain old personal experience have done more to stop people from smoking than taxes ever will. Taxes don't stop people from smoking, drinking whatever, or eating like hogs at the trough. Education is the better choice, but that doesn't fund our criminally corrupt government.

If I was President I would tax the shit out of honey. It is really sweet. The only reason tobacco taxes work is the customer is addicted and they have no one on their side. They came for the smokers and I did nothing because I quit. Then they came for the fat little boys and their sugar and I did nothing because I don't like fat people. Then they came for me and there was no one left to do anything about it. Now they just all think any tax is ok as long as they don't have to pay it. They tax carbon becaue it makes the world hot and they tax sugar because it makes people fat. Man, I'm here to tell you both Co2 and Sugar are good gifts from God. Get your science straight first before you go taxing something.

Ever the victim.
