I Missed the Boat
Actually, I don't think there could be much confusion about which god I was talking about.
If you have a different god and that one is kind and caring then good for you. I 've no right to disaprove of anyone having their own god and their beliefs to help them through the day, if that's what they need. I object to being TOLD that I have to accept false assertions (which assertions after all are created by man in any case) and if I don't follow their gods, or should I dare to question or put the opposite view, then I become some kind of lost soul or despotic godless creature.
I would guess a lot of folks would be disapointed to see their god portrayed as a cruel and intimidating deity, as the Bible does - I was. Any god worth its salt should know it is an impossible dichotomy to expect free minded intelligent sentient beings to blindly and unquestioningly accept a book, written by humans and full of glaring contradictions, to be a message from "him".
So it's a simple step from there to create one that just has the friendly bits associated to it.
But that's a different god and I would guess there are different gods created every day, which are able to cover over the flaws of a previous one. They reside in peoples' minds and I think that's fine as long as they are not used as an excuse for feeling righteous and instructing everyone else they shall accept that as the truth.
