stu,

Trading and religion have nothing to do with each other. :)

I have my religious beliefs, but I don't let them interfere with my life. That might sound a bit ass backwards, but I guess the only way to explain it is that, in my honest opinion, if we are here for a reason, it is to do the things we love to do and think over religion occasionally and how it reflects on our lives.

However, some people become consumed with religion and that is the first stage of becoming a fanatic.

God, if he exists, probably likes to have a good time, too. I'm sure he is much more tolerant and forgiving of our nature than many religions suggest.

Cool aphie, I wouldn't - couldn't disagree with that.

But it's not what I asked , nevertheless, you make great posts keep it up .......and good luck to you :)

because they are obviously not thinking rationally!

thanks for the response--so they can think rationally in all other aspects of life but for some reason their intellect fails them in this regard. do i understand you correctly ??

1. If God exists, then he is immutable.
2. If God exists, then he is the creator of the universe.
3. An immutable being cannot at one time have an intention and then at a later time not have that intention.
4. For any being to create anything, prior to the creation he must have had the intention to create it, but at a later time, after the creation, no longer have the intention to create it.
5. Thus, it is impossible for an immutable being to have created anything
6. Therefore, it is impossible for God to exist

DO YOU UNDERSTAND LOGIC??!! IS IT WITHIN YOUR MEAGER ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND LOGIC!! H

This is rediculous. Why can not an immutable being have an intention and later not have this intention if this being has achieved its objective???

LOGIC IS IRREFUTABLE!!! IT IS WHAT IT IS!! EHEHE! :D

every man has the ability to think rationally. whether or not we choose to exercise that ability is up to us.
given the haphazard way many of our beliefs are formed when we are children, it is almost a certainty that the most critical of us have some irrational beliefs.
reading books and iteracting with other intelligent, "rational" people is a great way to stimulate yourself to examine some of your longest held beliefs and see whether they are rational or not.

in the case of religion, it is not so much a case of their "intellect faling" them, rather they choose not to think critically on the issue of god (and for good reason - their god is conceived as an everpresent being who knows all their thoughts).

You relalize, that since you have decided not back up
your assertions that you have conceded this debate.

I accept :D

Your arguement basically boils down to:

I know there is a creator.
I have no way of proving this to you, but I just KNOW.
We will know who is right after were dead.

Your position is irrational and you have no
way of defending it. You must also accept the fact
that no rational person should accept your claim.
You can not expect them to without proper evidence.

Also....
I do not think, or assume, you have a need to prove your
beliefs to me. I simply observed an illogical arguement
and pointed out the errors so that others are not mislead.

I believe critical thinking skills would greatly improve
our society. I enjoy showing ( at least I attempt to)
proper critical review of statements made by others
ESPECIALLY when they are making grand claims.

Most importantly, its always OK to admit that you dont know.

peace

axeman - born an atheist, and STILL an athiest :D

That is what is most important!!

Truth - the non-contradiction of reality.
Ok...here's one example.: YOU!
People see you, touch you, hear you every day.
Even people on this board, communicate with you every day.
You may just be a simulated person, but that doesnt matter.
You exist in some form or another.

If we want to take this to the extreme, "we" don't know he exists in any form. All that I know is that I think and that I exist.
