there are only two types of people in the world - those who descended from man and those who ascended from apes - and its fun to watch them try to communicate.....hehehe:D

You're meaningless, pal. You don't like our opinions because they sting! You don't like to think there's a God because it allows you to be liberated. Oh boy, I can do what ever I what because there's no punishment. You are so caught up in yourself that it prevents you from seeing beyond your nose.

I don't have to search for 4 hours. I don't have to search at all. I just read the posts and I see someone in a glass house throwing stones ("what" rather than "want"). You shouldn't have brought it up in the first place since it was never relevant!!

Ok Danny,

Let's make the topic, "A creator must exist." You start the topic.

How about "A Creator might exist." Thus the onus is on Danny to prove that God CAN'T exist!

No problem...i just wanna clarify whether or not we are gonna be using "Creator" and "God" synonymously..?

daniel_m,

Any god that can take an atom and give flavor to a can of soda and use that very same atom to give you consciousness is so far removed from simple human discussions, that to debate his existence or lack thereof is simply idle chit-chat from an organism that hasn't even begun to grasp the true complexity of this universe.

It would be synonymous to a bunch of ants getting together to discuss why *we* exist -- they don't have a consciousness able to envelope even a minute fraction of the variables necessary to arrange a good topic of discussion.

I assure you, that there is a pattern to things and that something exists beyond our reasoning abilities. Humans can't accept the fact that they won't always be able to grasp everything -- but that's what makes us so beautiful.

We remain intelligent enough to probe the universe from the micro to the macro, yet we remain ignorant enough to keep the glamour of the mystery alive.

The fact that we are finite is understated above. In fact, our logic system is finite, and using language as pure logic is, I say again, to argue semantics (and it is arrogant). To say that God (if a god exists) is not all "knowing" because he doesn't know what I will do next is to play with the definitions of a language of communications of a finite collection of cells that uses 5 limited senses to perceive and interpret the universe! Just limiting the concept of a God being "all knowing" and omnipotent by playing with the definitions of our silly language is to define and inherently limit this potential God by our infitessmal (sp?) communication structure!

FACT: we ALL came from ape-like animals. period.

before someone refutes this with their religious argument, UNDERSTAND THIS POINT:

there is an ABUNDANCE of evidence suggesting my position. on planet earth, we use scientific methods to establish fact from fiction. at the current moment, evolution is supported by overwhelming evidence. just because you insist on believing the bible, it DOES NOT mean evolution is incorrect - YOU'RE INCORRECT.

the bible's stance IS NOT supported by evidence. when you weigh evolution vs. adam & eve nonsense, the SCALE GOES OFF THE HOOK in favor of evolution. evolution is fact, the bible is fiction.

i don't expect you all to accept evolution right away. whenever there is a new discovery, a minority believes it, then over time, it spreads to the majority. in a few hundred years you bible people will be laughed at like the former believers of the greek gods. people like me are the pioneers of this issue. you all are just late to the party. just like buying the top of a rally.....the smart guys were in a long time ago.

missed the boat, my comments are NOT misguided at all...

if you claim that God is an inherently incomprehensible creature, then the debate ends right here...if god is UNKNOWABLE then it is much more than simply "misguided" to claim KNOWLEDGE of him, it is downright IDIOTIC!

by attempting to define their god, christians are in fact limiting him, (if god is THIS, then he does not posses the attribute of being NOT THIS)...
a limited god is fine with me (IF HE CAN BE PROVEN TO EXIST)...but it is NOT FINE with christians...they keep wanting to have an unlimited, infinite god....yet, such a proposition is TOTALLY INCOMPREHENSIBLE,....
if it is totally unintelligible....then they can NOT claim knowledge of it...

to then have someone like you come and say, "no no no man is finite, god is infinite, you can't make such "surface level comment" (as dorkhorse says)" is bullshit....
christians say god created man in his image right? well, as far as i know, god doesn't have a body or anything that actually resembles man...so i can only assume they mean "in his image" to mean that we THINK similarly to god...(otherwise how the fuck are we created in his image if neither in body nor mind??)
that means WE CAN talk about gods qualities...and when we talk about them, the concept of god (as reported by christians) totally falls dead on its ass

anyway, going down this road often leads to unnecessary dead ends...even though i am totally confident in the atheit positions ability to vanquish any religious doubletalk, there is more than one way to take down christianity...and that is to look at its roots...the idea that jesus lived as a man, as i have said, is total bunk...completely untrue... and not only jesus, but all other areas of the bible can be totally destroyed by critical analysis...christians simply have no answers to any of this...the only thing they can do is, like darkhorse, hide behind a defence of "complexity" that they invent so that they can keep living their lives in blissful ignorance..

You are measuring most everything against the bible and "Christianity," which is not what I (or most people here I think) are using as the basis for our arguments.

IMissed THe Boat

the main point is "what should man believe"? you can call it all semantics, you can bemoan our pitiful 5 senses and all the other shit you talk...at the end of the day man has a choice...

what should man believe?

that is really what is at the heart of the debate..

look, rather than posting all this.. just join me and aphie in our debate, i will be happy to take on all comers...let's just keep the arguments succinct and civil ...

so, define for me whether or not we will be using "God" and "Creator" synonymously...and i'll post my opening argument on whatever people here agree the topic should be..
